Let's take a step back and think about this for a moment.
Let's say in around.... 10 years time after the console's release, finding new copies of a game on the console is kinda hard, depending on the title, and getting it preowned is a lot cheaper and less of a hassle, in order for you to be able to play the game you need to pay the fee, but you can't because the service required to do so is now shut down because of the new console (Assuming Microsoft pulls themselves out of this.) And even if you get the game new you wouldn't be able to activate it due to the servers used for such tasks are now shut down.
Or you're a collector and you want to add the Xbox One to your collection and all the games you just got can't be played because you can't pay the fee due to the service being shut down you're basically left with of a husk of what was basically a expensive TVMotionDogBox.
