ok, make sense next time? game gets AAA it's AAA

and you cannot compare AAA on PC to AAA on console. standards are different. it's like comapring a 360 game to PS3 or PS3 game to Wii

[QUOTE="klactose"]

I'm not sure if Jason Booths comments have been talked about in SW or not, as I've been busy as hell with school and haven't been on the boards as much as I usually might be. If this has already been discussed then, my bad, if not then defeinitely let me know what you think!

Anyway, here goes.I am always interested in what independant developers really think about thedifferences between thePS3 and the 360.We are hearing more and more frequently about the difficulty in programming for the PS3as compared to the 360, however we rarely hear very credible sources.

But perhaps we are witnessing a sea change, with the comments a few months back from Gabe Newell and these latest comments just a few daysagofrom Jason Booth. We have already examined Gabe's remarks in previous posts,But I'm curious to find out what you all think about these new remarks from Jason. If you are not familiar with Jason Booth (and I wasn't), he is former Creative Director for Turbine (creators of Asheron's Call), he then joined Harmonix to work on Guitar Hero I, Guitar Hero II, and Rock Band, and he left Harmonix in September to join a new start up called Conduit Labs. On October 25th Jason wrote in his bloga pretty damningrefutation to what he considers Sony spinconcerning the power of the PS3.

The blog is pretty interesting reading and he breaks down many fanboy arguments like "the Ps3 is more graphically superior than the 360" or "the cell is super powerful".

Then after he addresses these misconceptions, as he calls them.He continues on to his conclusions, one of which is

[Quote="Jason Booth"]So, the common theme is this; developers must spend significantly more time and resources getting the PS3 to do what the 360 can already do easily and with a lot less code. Lets look at how this translates into practical realities for a moment:

Why the PS3 version often pails in comparison to the 360 version, and why exclusives often suck:

As outlined above, getting equivalent performance out of the PS3 requires a lot of work unique to the platform, and in many cases, even with all these tricks, you still won't see equivalent performance. Thus, many ps3 games have simplified shaders and run at lower native resolutions than the 360 versions. On top of this, there is shrinking incentive to do this work; the PS3 isn't selling.squallff8_fan

I think it's interesting because this is a person who has worked on PS3 and 360s and who doesn't have any obvious incentives to be a fanboy for either console. Anyway, I like how he closes, because I think that a lot of the fanboys will miss this part totally, and if they do, then they are likely missing the entire point that Booth is making.

This post might come across as a lot of Sony bashing, but it's just the reality from the trenches. Sony let their hardware be designed by a comity of business interests rather than a well thought out design that would serve the game development community. They are going to loose hard this round because of it, and I hope that in the next round they take lessons from this round and produce a more balanced and usable machine.Jason Booth

Yeah I agree with him the ps3 is overrated graphically. Thats why the ps3 has a game that already sets the bar in graphics for a console over the xbox 360 which had a year head start over the ps3. I think ill let Naughty Dog Devs do the talking because from these screen shots just shows how good games will look if u were to build an engine strictly for the ps3. Now these are impressive and yes graphically the best looking game for any console game thus far.

U think this is impressive, watch the video and how amazing and realistic the game looks and the water just looks awesome.

Enjoy. :)

didn't read the article did you? he was mentioning about ports. not exclusive games made by first party with all the tweaks under the sun to get it to run properly.

like he mentioned, they probably copied assets all over the place to make it run faster, just like RFOM and claim this game could not be done on DVD.

window crack? this isnt pgr4 were talking about...full car damage...seriously find a hobby besides talking trash about games millions of people buy and love

as a expansion later on. that says a lot. it's a patch. visual onlt no physics behind it. this game has all ways been about gfx and even that they cannot solidly beat the other racers.
