Just watched the G4 review. Harsh stuff. Butt shots of Samus, her fixation on her love interest (refusing to use weapons systems unless he gives her permission) and her ability to generate missiles by concentrating really hard indicate that Itagaki molded Team Ninja in his own image. It will be interesting to see how the Metroid fanbase takes it (of course, the only way to measure that will be to see how well Metroid Other M 2 sells).CarnageHeart
"Butt shots of Samus"
I recently watched a "making of" video that is posted on the Nintendo Channel and learned that Team Ninja had nothing to do with the CG portions of the game. Nintendo actually worked with someone else directly in creating these sequences.
"her fixation on her love interest"
Team Ninja had nothing to do with the story, and it seems many people are blaming them for it. The story was written by Yoshio Sakamoto...the same man who was responsible for Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid: Zero Mission. I think he was also involved in the original Metroid, as well.
"her ability to generate missiles by concentrating really hard"
I don't understand why they made such a big deal of this point. If you watch the talkabout video on G4, they talk about how unrealistic it is to regenerate by concentrating. To me, it's no more ridiculous than it was in past Metroid games where enemies would drop health and missiles when killed. What are enemies doing carrying health and missiles and other power ups that may help their sworn enemy along the way? Other critically acclaimed games out there don't require you to do anything to regenerate health...just take cover for a few seconds and everything will be alright.
All that being said, I still haven't made a decision on whether or not to buy this game.
