Blizzard are trying to take the future of PC gaming and shunt it into a truly terrible direction. The problem is that they're such a big company, they believe they can do what they want. This absolute nonsense about having to be online to play a single player game (should you so choose) is preposterous. I regret buying D3, not only because the game is boring and doesn't even come close to its predecessors, but because in buying it i've put money into the pockets of a developer who is clearly bad for the future of the industry. Either way, I've learnt my lesson and I shan't be buying any other Blizzard game. This falls in line with all the market place and microtransaction bits that I feel cheapen games, and encourage developers to with-hold content in order to make a bit more money later.
Well this is disappointing... by their logic you could argue that mass effect 3 in its entirety is the "ending" of the series... I had high expectations for this game... it disappointed me and generally left a sour taste over the whole series as a result.
If you're a fan of the series, you should get the DLC. It's not ideal, but that's the way the gaming market has gone. You can't just buy mass effect 3 and expect to be clued up on everything. I've had friends who hadn't played ME1/2 and bought 3 and were asking me questions every 5 minutes. ME is one of the best sci fi stories i've ever experienced, if you want to do the same then don't baulk at starting from ME1 and progressing from there. And no, I didn't like the inclusion of james vega, he seemed surplus to requirements when you have so many other characters.
Kids today won't want to go back and play the retro games we played. They'll take one look at it and the graphics will put them off. How many of the younger gamers here would go and play a commodore 64 game for example? or an amiga game? I think these games are amazing because i played them as a kid, and everyone always looks back at their childhood through rose-tinted glasses. The games were truly innovative, the concepts great, but the gaming industry is quite similar to the film industry, what you're going to end up with is a lot of remakes and sequels of previous franchise games to bring them to modern gamers. Look at the upcoming syndicate, they've lost the core essence of the game in order to rehash it as an FPS (of which there are no end lately) so you no longer have the isometric camera angle or the interesting game mechanics. As far as the history of gaming goes, I feel it should be chronicled, but it might be a while before people do that.
Shame EA got the NFL license... otherwise this article would be talking about NFL 2k too. Reason the 2k series does so well is because they don't come across as shafting their customers every year with a rehashed product with nothing to offer but updated rosters. They actually take the game they have and think "how can we improve this?".
Whilst i'll say this is a well constructed article for the most part... I'll have to point out that people who come to browse gamespot don't care about angry birds. What i think this shows more than angry birds is the mobile phone culture we're seeing. I was waiting outside a classroom with about 10 other people, every single one of them, mobile phone in hand. What ever happened to the lost art of conversation? People on their phones want quick games to spend 5 minutes on. Hence the niche market for angry birds and bejeweled.
I remember when i bought GTA3, i hadn't heard anything about it, never knew they were making a third one. Then one day in GAME, i came across it, remembered how i enjoyed playing GTA1 and bought it on impulse... Needless to say i was blown away with how much it had come on since GTA1+2. I miss times like those where a game would surprise you in ways you didn't imagine it could.
Doesn't matter what nintendo do for a new console. Let them line up Zelda, mario, super smash bros, and the people will buy it. After these games are released then it's no longer relevant and nintendo will start working on the their next console.
Good article, but you're only looking at game's villains on the individual level. The reapers aren't the individual villain in ME, Saren was. (and he was pretty badass). I'm a fan of the faceless villain organization, as i think it adds more mystery to them because you don't know them on an individual level. Le chuck from Monkey island was a memorable villain for me :D
