@jumpaction: the critic behind a review makes the review credible or not and not if its well written.
You can hear or read the most epic BS in history thru politics in the best way possible but ... they are BS. Same with reviews. For you to understand when a reviewer lacks in depth analysis is not how good writer he is nor how well is explaining his points. Is if his points are valid to begin with and if what he says reflects to reality and its not just generic stuff and generic opinions dressed under well constructed composition.
The only way to do that is to play the game yourself and come to your own verdict about the game and then you can decide if someone is a great reviewer or not. But this needs to be constant. If a reviewer the one time nails it and the other is totally off, he lost me big time.
So aside scores and well written articles is the guy behind all that that makes something credible to me or not?
Sadly this reviewer lost me the moment he said he didnt finish any of the 3 games when he had to finish all 3 and let us know which did what best , why and how games are progressing up to the final stages and more
@jumpaction: Ofc you would ask why, everyone would, but with your logic an answer in simple manner to backup why wouldnt do it for you
Do you understand now that it has to do if you trust the person that does the review more than anything ? Thats why if i need to read/watch a review i do this from guys i know we have same taste more or less and we see gaming from the same point of view more than anything.
So if a guy i trust , being a friend or a net critic , tells me i give N Sane an 8 because 1-2-3. Simple stuff , 3 line sentence for example ill take it way more seriously than an academic like proffessor with his well structured article working for media because i trust him more.
@jumpaction: If a friend of mine that i trust gives me a score i will take it into a serious consideration without say a single word more .. simply because i trust him AND i know his taste/opinion and gaming sense is close to mine.
With that being said this is very rare for me, 99% of the time i want to see myself what X game is about or even play it before buy it except if im hyped.
@jumpaction: This works both ways. A score can say it all if the guy that gives it is someone you trust him all the way.
For example im a user, i played the game and i need to score it but i dont have the opportunity to say much nor i care to do so and from my experience i think X game deserves an 8. So what? This 8 means nothing towards the user average ?
Reviews can do without scores so why you came here to debate in the first place ? i dont get it.
@jumpaction: If this guy would play the games till the end, all three of them i could take him seriously. The moment he said he didnt he lost the credibility im looking for. That would be the same if he had writing skills or not. It doesnt matter to me.
About metacritic you are so obsessed about, i said clearly im not going with scores but IF EVER i need to check a score the average of many >>> the score of a single individual. Thats how it goes for me. That doesnt mean im buying games or have an opinion about game that way otherwise we wouldnt be debating about RE4 before.
So words > scores ? Not necessarily since the guy that putting the words down in detailed fashion needs to score as well , isnt he ? But then does that mean anything if you play the game yourself and beg to differ even if what he wrote is well written and all ? Nope, who gives a shit also !
So all in all, its all about opinions, taste and preference. But for this specific review theres nothing to convince me words wise and that resembles to score as well which i disagree with at the same time. So in a sense score means something. You can have the best guy out there that explains in detailed manner why X game is great and still disagree with him based on your own opinion/gaming sense.
@jumpaction: As long as someone simply put his thoughts what is wrong and what is right about a game and backup that im ready to go. I dont need academic kind of vocabulary and guru like statements in reviews. Too much "culture" in simple stuff is boring. I dont see anyone to not backing up why he things game is great or bad so is down to opinion and not about writing here.
Also thats a general opinion of yours not a fact that most of reviewers out there wouldnt pass high school standards. Lol. Plenty of them would if not all.
As for sites and general opinions about video gaming im following certain people it seems we got the same taste and opinion on things. For me those are the guys ill listen to IF , which is rare , i have not concluded in my own opinion about a game. Since we are so close to what we think good or bad. No sites, no random internet gurus with double standards etc. And thats what i suggest you to do also.
So i never listen to anyone if its not a guy i trust let alone a single site or two let alone a score alone . Again for third time, you insist im taking score seriously in purpose at this point, if i want to check a score for a game the first thing ill do is to go by METACRITIC average. Im saying for third time, it doesnt mean ill agree all the time with. All im saying is 100 opinions average > 1 guys opinion/score. So i dont get why youll go that far to give an example at this point.
If i was going by score alone i wouldnt criticize RE4 that much dont you think ?
@jumpaction: Again for second time i said it doesnt mean ill agree with metacritic but if i want to go and see a score for a game ill prefer an average of many critics than a single. Far better than a singles guy opinion.
Also how well someone can write down his thoughts doesnt mean shit to me when what he writes resembles that of a college proffessor when what he has to say is totally BS. Thats what politics do and look where the world is heading. I dont want sophisticated blabla and guru like sentences to think someone as good critic.
Specially some people around that think know everything when in reality having double standards, bashing games for X , Y , Z then calling masterpieces games that having fundamental core gameplay flaws among so many other things they use to cry about for other games , in the name of "design" when even that great design they speaking of is based on a BROKEN mechanic in the first place . And they calling this GREAT and excuse AI for being that dumb in the name of design so the broken mechanic can work greatly ! LOL. So lets not speak about AI please. I know you mentioned this in purpose
So all in all, everything has an opinion so are critics. And i disagree with this one big time specially when he hasnt finished a single game out of all 3.
@jumpaction: You jump on my post, quoting me and clearly you starting something and then you avoiding the most crucial part of debate when we both know what is going on here. I cant debate further with you since you are not clearly say your opinion.
As for nostalgia, i said the same thing. And that was that if reviewer was about to review a game that used to like, Mario games in particular, the mistakes he found in Crash wouldnt be there nor he would care that much if game was a replica or not to give a 6. So while you bashing something i agree with you in the first place at the same time you cleverly avoiding to take part on the other side of the spectrum because proves my point further and you clearly you dont want to do that. You just want to debate.
Metacritic AVERAGE is how i go. You can go with review of a single guy i go with alot of different peoples average score wise. That doesnt mean ill agree with that but if i have to see a score and get an idea, thats where ill go to see it and not in a specific site. 100 opinions average >> 1 specially if this 1 is a bad one.
@jumpaction: So you admit there are double standards here in Gamespot which is my point while you using this against me cleverly because this is Crash and not Mario. If the situation was reversed i bet you wouldnt even respond to me or you would nod.
I dont have to prove anything nor im taking anything back , metacritic average ( the only score im going by with games since forever for the reasons like this one ( before was Gamerankings )) speaking for itself. Let alone users reception/scores all over the place.
