Ok cool. Thanks again to all especially kaitanuvaxand BackHatch Who have been helping me since the begging, now only if this forum had any kind of kudos system...

That OCZ i listed had a lot of bad reviews, sticks DOA. You might what to look at something else. Just look for any other DDR3 1333 or 1600. The thing is the board says it supports 1666 but there is none for sale anywahere. I did a few google searches and most people think its a typo and its supposed to say it supports 1600. If you want to be safe stick with 1333.

I've tried OCZ only two times before with DDR2 (different models) and both times resulted in piss poor experiences. The RAM just caused issues with my motherboards - ASUS, Gigabyte and ASRock. I haven't had issues with ADATA or Corsair RAM.

From my couple of experiences from OCZ, I stay way from that brand now.

Yeah OCz really seems to be sucking. There SSD drives are terrible too!!!!

Accually could you point me out to the right type of RAM I need for your motherboard? Will any DDR3 do or is there specifics?

I would get the OCZ Platinum (2x2GB) 7-7-7-20. DDR3 13333 that is $99 with a $20 mail in rebate making it $79. Thats a great deal!

The important point though is I\you should be able to upgradeour CPU, GPU, and RAM for a good 2 years without upgradingthis board. It will be a while before socket AM4 and DDR4 RAM hits the market. That said it always seems to hit the market sooner than you think.... ;)

Yeah eaxctly, you only need it if you are going to run two video cards.

How long will it last? No one really knows the answer to that and that answer differs from person to person. I buy new hardware a lot, so it will probably last me about a year before I upgarde my CPU and GPU. But others who dont spend as much could use a setup like this for a few years. I'm already thinking about getting a new video card and I have only had the one I have now for about 4 months! lol

So I'm a bit of an upgrade spaz ;)

And if you want to spend more than $219 ($250-270)then opt for an even better AM3 CPU or 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

sirkoady

Ok, so I was looking at your rig........I think I might just have to copy it. Exept I have a GeForce 9800 GT which is an exellent card that I dont need to replace. But Ill just have to wait longer till I can come up with that kind of money. But yeah Im getting your Mother Board, and CPU. Ill probally buy 4 GB of RAM too. It might be a while before I get the money though.

Yeah I'm happy with mine. The only real drawback to my board is it only has 1 PCI-e slot. So you might want to take that into consideration. Also the heatsink on the Northbridge has been critisied if you are going to OC, but you can buy 3rd party Northbridges heatsinks for like $20. I am not over clocking yet so I'm not too worried about it. At stock its fine.

Oh and the motherboard you suggested is only a AM3. Will it support AM2+ proccessors?

sirkoady

No it wont, just AM3 but why would you need anything else? The board I listed + 1 of the 2 CPUs I listed. That will take you to $150. Then buy 2GB of DDR3 for $69. Your at $219! That is all you need. And now you will be able to upgrade your CPU and RAM for a good 1.5 to 2 years.

Did you completely dismiss the fact that he already has DDR2?

Of course not, did you not read the post I just made? I talked about the price difference of replacing it knowing he would be getting rid of his existing RAM. And it sounds like his old PC is pretty old so chances are his DDR2 Ram is pretty slow. And how much does he even have? If he only has like 1 GB (2x 512) then its not even worth bringing over. And your suggestions are just weird, you talked about the price for 3 GB of RAM?? Why would any one buy 3 GB?!? You would get 2, 4, 6, or 8!

Alright dude, find me a motherboard that supports this new RAM that is 50-80 bucks and Ill look into it. I appreciate that you are thinking about my future, but again I have a max 250 dollar buget, and I beleive the proccessor Im getting is 170 something.

The board I listed earlier in this post is a DDR3 board and is only like $45. Sorry i cant post links, I'm at work and our security on our browsers will not let me paste. Just on this board. Kind of weird. Just grab the name I typed and search for it on NewEgg.
