Windows Defender since it's built in to Windows 8, and common sense.

Antivirus is dead anyway, according to Symantec.

So it's been a while since I've signed in here so I went to my profile to update/clean house. I cannot edit a couple of my stacks either.

  • Games I Want (24 games)
  • Games I Own (184 games)

After clicking the Edit This Stack button the page either partially loads with all controls grayed out, doesn't load at all, or comes back with a 502 error.

Please advise, or better yet just wipe them both out for me as that's what I plan to do anyway. Thanks.

If I had to choose one console it would be the 360. The PS3 has the Blu-ray player which is nice, but otherwise they might as well have the same hardware. I think the PS3 is more powerful technically, but I haven't seen it in games. I think the 360 controller is the best ever invented, especially when the chatpad is connected to it. The real difference is in the dashboard and online experience. The design, layout and use of the dashboard is just better on the 360 compared to the XMB on the PS3. There's also achievements and gamerscore (better than trophies) and it's safe to say Xbox Live is the industry standard for the console online experience. As for games, that's up to you really. Do the PS3 exclusives outweigh the positives of the 360?

Sure I do. The most recent was Dead Space which is still a fantastic game. I think I enjoyed it more the second time than the first.

It is a pretty strange phenomenon: games have become increasingly complex but at the same time easier to play. Take a game like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and contrast it with something like Contra. AC is magnitudes more complex to control, but I'd say Contra is (was) the harder game to beat. Maybe it's just experience that makes it seem that way. My parents bought a 360 (they previously had a Wii) and I let them borrow some games. My mom gravitated toward Red Dead Redemption. She tried it out but had a really hard time with the controls, particularly aiming and shooting while on horseback. "Too many buttons." she said, "I like arcade games." I showed her Pac-Man CEDX and the rest is history. Maybe it's age. As I get older I find myself increasingly intolerant of genuinely difficult games. I like a challenge to be sure, but I don't even bother trying games like Super Meat Boy anymore. I hear it can be a doozy and I'm sure I would've tried it in the past. Now though? No way.

Saints Row 2: Yes. You can download purchased items as often as needed for as long as they're available on Live. Save game data: No. You'll have to transfer saves from the old drive to the new one. PS: you can use a USB flash drive. Some things (like Fable save games) cannot be transferred this way however. You can get the transfer cable for $17 or less on Amazon. Using it is fast and easy and it's good to have one around anyway just in case.

I upgrade once the performance in games drops below acceptable levels. So far the machine I built in August '08 is standing the test of time without any upgrades. I finished Ego Draconis: Dragon Knight Saga recently. The machine handled "ultimate" settings at 1920 x 1200 just fine. I often wonder how much of a performance increase a shiny new part would give me, but then I force myself to remember that I don't need a performance increase right now.

The game saves automatically. I would just quit to the main menu and continue. Unless it saved the game with you stuck in the corner you'll be fine.

I don't think DA2 being different than DA:O automatically makes it worse. They can both be fantastic games in their own ways. I'm not going to cheat myself out of playing a great game simply because it's different than another great game. Besides, I have faith that BioWare knows what the hell they're doing when it comes to making good games. We're lucky $60 is all we're paying for a game. Had the price of games kept up with inflation we'd be paying twice what we are now, not to mention the increase in development and advertising costs since the 70's and 80's. Google it for yourselves. Here's one of the top results. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to pay more but I understand why we are and I'm thankful the price of a video game purchase is still way behind the curve.
