I agree also. It was just a better game really. People do like the concept of time travel however, that might be what lures people to OoT

[I'm doubting you've played Lost odyssey based on that line alone. Lost Odyssey's first disk in general was sort of boring and then it picked up and as far as stories go, they pretty much nailed the emotional part on the head. Why can't you just accept that people have DIFFERENT opinions? After the first disc, the game was Boring as heck, and the story couldn't have been more CLICHE if they tried.>SolidTy
I'm not arguing score here, but I'm just informing the people who are into these games that these issues aren't here.
As you can see, I'm typing in bold in hope to get this across your thick skull. Maybe bold font is the key to the supremicist's mind?
And anyway, even if this is someone's first jrpg and they like it, so what? Then they like it. Understand? A game doesn't have to be universally liked to enjoy that, something that JRPG fans understand more than enough.
SolidTy, have you ever considered that you just, simply, don't like JRPGs? I've seen you post, you'll probably respond with something along the lines of "No, I'm an experienced gamer, I know RPGs". But reading some of your mentalities, you don't actually seem to like jrpgs, but rather the mainstream jrpg games. You probably prefer realtime combat and you probably loathe random battles. We get it, you're a supremecist, but seriously, some of us really enjoy these games. I'm not arguing that the score is underrated, I frankly don't care. That being said, I don't want these issues to sway some jrpg fans from buying this because believe it or not XTY, to some of us, our favorite games this generation are Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, etc. You should just accept that people have opinions.TC, I am waiting for more reviews to come in, however, this generation of RPG's have been incredibly underpar.
It's possible people weened on lackluster RPG's this generation like Lost Odysse, Blue Dragon, and Eternal Sonata (Even the improved PS3 version) may like Last Remnant a whole lot, but people weened on Fantastic RPG's may find this game to be merely average to above average.
OR
Other Websites/Magazines will agree with you and GS underated it.
It comes down to experience, and there are Newer, YOUNGEr gamers that are FAR MORE forgiving with the SLOP this generation has given us, because they lack experience.
In the end, we shall see.

And Ty, I sincerely doubt you've played more JRPGs than me. Seriously. Granted I didn't get into them until the SNES and I did not get to play all the JRPG that I wanted to there and by the time I got into them some of them were impossible to find and the internet, well, it barely existed back then (a joke, but sort of not).
[QUOTE="Tragic_Kingdom7"]I'm hoping that the technical problems are ironed out for the most part when the PS3 version releases, because I'm hoping that this the JRPG I can finally get into. I found the Eternal Sonata demo to be extremely dull, I cannot overlook the fact that there's no exploration in Valkyria Chronciles, Diseaga's presentation just doesn't do it for me, etc. If I don't like the Last Remnant or White Knight Chronicles and FF13 proves to be just like FFX, I give up on JRPG's. too_much_eslimI hear tales of vesperia is a great RPG I will be playing it soon. ALso LO is a great rpg. You should buy the arcade 360 and try out some of these rpgs. FF13 looks to be ace. WKC is a game that fell off my radar. Recent gameplay vids convinced me I am not going to like the game. Which is sad because I was totally stoked for it when it was first shown. I think you should try out VC. It lloks to be a great rpg. I am definately going to play it whenever I get a ps3. I'd say White Knight Chronicles still looks pretty good. It doesn't look nearly up to par with some other games, but it looks like it should be worth a playthrough. I'm not actually too big of a fan of Level 5, but they do make pretty good games. My main problem with WKC is the fact that it's, well, believe it or not, mission based. So uh... yea.

Tragic_Kingdom7Did you not just read what I wrote?
Anyway, in my opinion, Eternal Sonata is pretty bad. It's actually how you guys view Blue Dragon on these boards. (which I think is an awesome game, contrary to this place's mentality).
I'd reccommend these jrpgs: Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Last Remnant
Stay away from Eternal Sonata. Infinite Undiscovery is better than what reviewers credited it for, but not really anything special. I'm not that far into it however. That's basically covering all the higher profile jrpgs that are out (and yes, I mean jrpgs, not srpgs like disagea or valkyria chronicles- different audience).
I don't normally post in these forums, but I do read them quite oftenly. Anyway, I was enticed to create an account and post due to the Last Remnant review. It got a 6.5; however, it is described as "what could be an instant classic" if it weren't for the technical issues.
This has me scratching my head after playing it for around 6 hours or so. Is this the same version as the review version? Is there some pop up? Yes. Most notably in battle, but that's mainly describing the monsters fading in and out (though not completely). I don't know how else t describe it, but it's not really bad at all when it comes to technical issues. It's most certainly better in this regard than most any WRPG. And then if you install it, it even lessens this.
Just thought I'd throw that out there. It's a very good game and is really starting to put my confidence back into Square-Enix (although the last true game they've made was on the Ps2). Don't let the low review score sway you off. The issues seemed to be resolved, or just not present anymore, especially (again) when installed.
Maybe it only occurs after a point? But then again, that's contrary to the review. Anyone have videos perhaps? I checked to see if I had a super-xbox but youtube videos of other's games seem to have little issues as well.
Jees, I swear, Kevin VanOrd just finds reasons to bring the score of a rpg down. (that's a joke, although kind of true)
* This is coming from a guy who didn't see technical issues in lost odyssey either aside from some framerate slow down during cutscenes. Same goes for Ninja Gaiden 2 aside from some certain spots (that staircase about 4/5ths through the game comes to mind)
---> As far as other reviews go, it seems like many of them simply dislikit because it's not Final Fantasy (although the feel of it resembles 12 so closely). One reviewer even went as far as to say it straight up, not only referencing it, but saying it quite literally:
"Even though it's easy to assume at a quick glance that fresh IP The Last Remnant is a direct descendant of the Final Fantasy series, it really isn't at all. Yes, they come from the same dev house, are both turn based and share similar, dream-like worlds and characters, but dig deeper and you'll find that these titles aren't even for like audiences, let alone similar in design. In fact, many of the aspects of The Last Remnant that try to skew it toward a certain demographic (read: different than the FF faithful) are the ones that make Square's new property a bit of a letdown.
