Not really. What caused the $600 pricetag of the PS3 was the BD driver and the CELL processor, both of which are dirt cheap. They can use an updated cell and a better bluray driver. SONY can manufacture both of these by themselves to minimize costs plus pay no royalty fees. All they need is a GPU and RAM. If they're using DDR2, then they better pack it with 8 GB. If they're using DDR5 or other high-quality ram, then 2 GB will do. The GPU is a mystery, but SONY can take a small price hit for each console sold, which will lower the price for consumers.[QUOTE="BattlefieldFan1"][QUOTE="Litchie"]
I do not think the PS4 will use the best available hardware. It would be too expensive and not sell.
My current rig is 5 years old, so it will be more powerful than that I bet, but once I get myself an i5 2500K CPU and 8gb RAM to go with my 560ti graphics card, the PS4 will probably not match.

[QUOTE="BattlefieldFan1"][QUOTE="lowe0"]I think you'd see pushback then - consumers will take nickel-and-diming, but only so much. Better to stick to DLC, where there's at least a perception of value.Kell_the_GamerAnd I think it might depend on the corporation. In console industry, Microsoft has a cult-like following like Apple does in the PC industry. You can tell by the way they call mediocre games like shotguns of bore and gaylo the 2nd coming of Christ and buy them in droves. Microsoft might be able to get away with it and so might Activision and maybe EA. I guess it depends on the company. From your OP I was gonna take your side but now you're starting to appear as just a rabid Microsoft hateboy. If you're a true gamer, you should hate microsoft for what they've done and what they're going to inspire in future generations. Other companies aren't turning a blind-eye to microsoft's model. They WILL follow it if microsoft wins next-gen. Prepare to buy far fewer games next gen as you're going to have to pay for LIVE fees AND the multiplayer fees of each game you buy.
