My current gaming activities..

So what am I doing gaming-related?

It's still everything about Gears 2 here, with a better online function, I play this the most. I quit with Burnout paradise, too arcade, not really a racer for me. When my wife owns the tv, I play Civ4 from time to time (talk about an addict!!) on the notebook, but I am playing a new racer named Grid. My first impression is that this is an excellent racer with plenty of options. It's the right mix between Burnout and Forza Motorsport 2, which was a bit too much simulation for me.

Oh yeah, I also have Far Cry 2 here, but I don't know.. I guess I can't play two shooters at one time?!

Check out my review about Grid later!

So much for Braid

Hey guys!

I finally finished Braid, check out my review to see how I thought about it.

Now I'm looking for another Xbla game I can play on my own, anyone has some suggestions?

Oh, and about Burnout Paradise.. I raced some miles, but I'm still too busy with gears (I finally have two stripes, yeehaah!) so I guess I don't like it enough..

Fallout 3...

Well I'm playing Fallout 3 for a while now, and I honestly don't know what to think about this game.Frankly so far I'm not impressed. Sure the post-nuclear Washington DC is beautiful in some ways, but there are some things that surprised me in a negative way.

The characters (pc and npc's) look very static, and don't share many emotions.

Also, I get lost too many times, and then there's this.

The game is all about karma. I want to be the person with the good karma, but imagine yourself this. When you are in a store, and want to repair your weapons at a workbench, you have to click on this workbench. Today I had this thing, that I accidentally picked up an item which laid down on the workbench in a store. But according to the game rules, you steal an object, in a store once you pick it up. Suddenly, you gain bad karma, the store guard becomes an enemy, and blows you into pieces with his rifle. And oh snap! I forgot to save, and I return 10 minutes back in the story!

I know the game is more about making choices than being a shooter, but I think Mass Effect does a great job at both of these things!

It may be the game of 2008 for many people, and I respect that, but again, I'm not impressed so far.

What are your feelings about this game?

This, and some other things makes me doubt if I will be able to complete the game.

My top 5 of 2008

Like 2007, 2008 was a year with great games. Unfortunately, I didn't play that many games last year, but the games I owned were a lot of fun!

My 5 fave games of last year are:

5. Mega Man 9 (8.5):

I really like the retro gameplay, I was always a huge fan of the 8-bit mega man series, so I welcomed this one with open arms!

4. Fifa 08 (8.5):

This is with no doubt the best football game I've ever played, and deserves a place in my top 5 of 2008!

3. Star Wars: The force Unleashed (8.5)

Although I expected a bit more from this (like a multiplayer mode), the story and excellent game design made many things good!

2: Gears of War 2 (9.5)

If the excellent multiplayer was without it's faults, this would have been my game of the year. But thos bugs just irritate me too much. But when it works, it rolls baby.. the Cole train rolls!

1: Grand Theft Auto IV (10):

It seems so long ago that I decided to sell this game. So why is this the best game of 2008 then? I just needed the cash to give other game a try. While the multiplayer of gears is superior above gta's, The singleplayer of GTA says it all. Everything is just overwhelming, the city, the violence, the driving, the shootouts. This has just been the best experience for me!

However, if I managed to play Fallout 3 in 2008, this would be a good contender as well.

Games I will play in 2009:

Fallout 3 (now playing)

Alan Wake (x360)

Fifa 10(x360)

Braid (x360)

World of Goo(Wii)

Mass Effect 2?

The art of gaming

So after all the slashing and crushing in The force unleashed, the jigsawing and meatsplashing in Gears of war and the punching and ha-do-kenning in Street Fighter HD remix 2, I thought let's get something entirely different. I remember I got my Xbox with Forza 2 and Viva Pinata, I chose to give the latter a try..

I am ashamed to say it, but I actually love the gardening in VP! It feels so relaxing to lean back and watch the flowers bloom, the blueberry bushes grow and attract those cute Pinata's. But is this right? Can a person who just blew the colon out of someones body enjoy watching two worms make love? My wife (who grows more and more sceptical about my gaming behaviour) says now I'm acting like a child, petting animals and watering flowers.

It's the art of gaming I guess, the ability to change your mood from being violent to being at Zen. It offers you the chance for being lazy (If you are to lame to clean up your own garden, hell, what am I married for :P ) or for being that superhero you always wanted to be.You can forget the bad things which happen in this world for a moment, some people read books, others play games.

training your brain, scoring that impossible goal, improving the lap with .1 second, anything is possible.

I'm sorry if something like this has already been said over a thousand times.

I am just happy and thankful to myself for having such a wonderful (yet expensive) hobby...

Gears of War 2-So far so great part 3

Yaaaaj, yesterday I finished the campaign on hardcore difficulty. It took me some blood, sweat and tears, but I've done it, and I happily collected the more than welcome achievements. So far this has been a thrilling experience, from now on I will enter the online mode. I'm especially interested in the Horde-mode, and a bit less interested in how many times I will get buttkicked by other gamers  (I still remember my Gears of War 1 online results...) But we'll see this time...

Next time will be my review, so check back soon!

Gears of War- So far so great- part 2

O my good god..... I just encountered something which dropped my jaw on my knees. A bossfight soooooo insanely cool, that even my wife interrupted her phonecall with her friend. The first thing she said was how in earth I could kill that... thing?!?!

The most funny thing is, that the same thing is said by Dom (in gears). While my wife is disgusted by all the gore and blood in Gears, she found this happening actually rather cool! And so did I..:P

Stay tuned for more!

Gears of War 2- So far so great!

Oh my blessing lord. While I promised my next game would be Fallout 3, I just couldn't help but picking gears of war 2 out of the shop. As the first gears was my first 10-rated game ever, I made this an exception to my promise.

I can tell you guys... This game is absolutely ass-kicking, razorblading great!

While I am not that far in the game to make a review about it, I can tell you, that gears 2 is even better than the first. While I already have some minor complaints about the game, they don't outweight the dark atmosphere and near-perfect gameplay this game breathes! I can't remember standing in the rain and watching the surroundings and thinking: this looks so beautiful. Not in a game nor in real-life!

A full review is coming soon! Now if you excuse me...... I have to shatter some locust bones again!
