RPG: Oblivion and expansions. NWN2. Jade Empire. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. KotOR II. A lot of people liked Titan Quest, but I haven't played it, so I don't know.

Adventure: Sam & Max episodes. Call of Cthulhu. Silent Hill series (if you haven't played it yet). An oldy but REALLY goody is Sanitarium.

Why do fewer people use linux than Windows? Because it sucks compared to Windows? NO! Because they either do not know about linux, they are afraid of command lines or actually having to understand anything about how the system works under the hood, or (most likely) they bought a new computer with XP or Vista pre-installed and they do not know how to or care to switch to linux.PCgamerX

Most likely because computers are becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity, with e-mail, surfing the web, etc. Not a lot of people understand how computers work, and they shouldn't be punished for that. That's why so many people love Mac. Cos it's so locked down and Apple tries very hard to make it idiot-proof. And it's not that people are afraid of command lines, it's that they don't understand how to use them . Having an OS that takes a lot of technical knowledge to use and operate does suck, for many users. Linux is great if you're into coding and such, but if you just want to search the internet, e-mail a friend, play a game online, and download some tunes, Linux is not very user friendly. And to many people, that directly correlates to it sucking.

Case in point, give a 40-something soccer mom 3 computers. On one she has to install Linux, the others she has to install Vista and OS X. Which one is she going to choose? The one that doesn't require learning command line parameters, a bunch of confusing jargon, and requires extra time and know-how to use. People want computers that (to borrow Apple's incorrectly applied slogan) "just work."

You could always use an XBox 360 controller, since it's PC compatable.

Meh. I went with id. The use of the Megatexture application seems like it's going to be a very powerful tool for developers to more easily and more quickly texture terrain, and it's destructability with no extra porocessor overhead sounds very intruiging. I guess I'm just overtly partial though, I've loved and modded with id's games ever since the days of Wolf3D.

Don't get me wrong, UE3 is pretty impressive and the Source engine has shown to be very resilient and flexible... I just feel that Megatexture is going to make a big splash with many developers and those selling idTech5 short aren't giving it enough of a serious look.

I usually DL from the developer. But most games include self-updating/patching programs nowadays. Well, the ones that need extensive patching tend to (ie; NWN2). If there is no self-update feature, I use xfire.

The vista adoption rate is terrible.

mismajor99

you are wrong. Look at the numbers, it is the fasting selling microsoft OS.

If the adoption rate is so good with the gaming community, why did MS decide to go with GEARS XP as well as Vista? PC Gamers for the most part arn't biting. As far as selling copies, that's OEM, not upgrading. The only reason why Vista is selling more compared to XP is simple, there are more computers being sold today then there ever was before. Therefore, more copies of Vista. Very misleading to say people are demanding or wanting Vista.

Especially considering Dell and many other PC retailers automatically ship their machines with Vista unless you specify otherwise. Add on top of that the fact that XP will no longer even be an option in '08, so you can expect the number of Vista users to really skyrocket. Meanwhile, many gamers like XP and find the extra resource footprint of Vista to not be worthwhile. Especailly when resources could be better allocated to running games instead of supporting a more resource intensive OS. If it weren't for DX10, gamers would most likely completely ignore Vista.

I hate microsoft. I paid $200 for XP professional and I can't even validate (download updates) it anymore because I changed my hardware. Does anyone know if I can just run SP2 without any security problems because it says I have 76 major updates that it needs to apply, but I can't because it wont validate. Swiftstrike5

Go to Control Panel (switch to Classic View) -> Automatic Updates and change it to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them." Make sure that you don't download and/or install the Genuine Advantage update. (you can remove it if you already have it, but it's better to just not download it. if you already have Geniune Advantage installed, look at the last paragraph of this message to disable it)

Updating through Automatic Updates is much better than using the website (though you may need to occassionally visit the website to get Auto Updates to look up new updates. Sometimes, changing the settings from "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them." to "Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them." and then back again will trigger the updates. It's weird, I know... but that's MS for ya!).

You really should update all those little files. Most of them are security related, but a lot of the bigger ones are fluff like newer versions of Windows Media Player, etc. That's why I feel it's better to have the "notify me before downloading and installing" option enabled. This way I don't DL and update a bunch of worthless stuff I don't use.

If you need help regarding Windows Geniune Advantage, http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/999/xp_how_to_bypass_validation_product_key_invalid tells you exactly how to do it. If you need any extra help, feel free to message me. It might take me a whilst to respond though, as I'm not on here every day. Many like the Prophecies storyline the best. Nightfall's story is pretty good too. Factions is so-so.

With the Eye of the North expansion and the pre-order bonus content, the Prophecies storyline will be, by far, the most fleshed out and deep. Eye of the North is a continuation of the Prophecies storyline.

How does their website work for buying the game? PlayNC.com. Do they send you the key and let you download it or does it come in a pack?-Unreal-

Yeah, they send you the key in an e-mail. you can download the client here: http://www.guildwars.com/downloads/gwsetup.zip

or you can go to the page ( http://www.guildwars.com/products/guildwars/wheretobuy/ ) and scroll to the bottom and click on the "Play The Game" icon to download.

Well, since you're asking about the best series, and not individual games (which is why I don't understand you having GRAW on there twice), I'd have to say Rainbow Six. The classics were extremely tactical (Rogue Spear was so great. I stil play it even today), and if you don't like that then you can play the more recent "arcade-ish" iterations of the series (RB6:Vegas).

Ghost Recon was a good hybrid of arcade and tactical, but the classic Rainbow Six series is, IMO, the best tactical shooter out there.

The SWAT series is just now coming around. The earlier games were extremely buggy and had horrendous AI. SWAT 4, I've heard is pretty good though. But when considering the entire series, SWAT gets marred for its poor beginnings.

Haven't played any of the GRAW games, so no comment.
