Reliable sources have confirmed to IGN that there were layoffs at Sony Santa Monica Studio today. The Sony-owned, exclusive developer – founded in 1999 – is best known for its God of War games. The extent of the damage remains unclear, though there are indications that one of the projects the studio was working on has been cancelled alongside this round of layoffs.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/25/layoffs-hit-god-of-war-studio-sony-santa-monica

This explains why they haven’t shown anything for next gen despite working on it for four years now. The project was probably in development hell. Great news for the non-existent PS4 exclusive line up. If their biggest studio is struggling, what hope do other studios have?

Also, lol at everyone who said games will come when I bitched about major Sony studios being a no-show at every trade show at and since E3.

Worst start possible for the PS4.

Totally. What a nightmare for Sony. Best selling system ever through 4 months! Awful!

@BluRayHiDef:

Probably just keep complaining to no avail. But in the meantime, I'm super hopeful MGSV blows us all away. March 18th is close!

Good stuff. I love MGS. It's my favorite series of all time and has had a profound influence on me as a gamer and storyteller. 1 and 3 are my two favorite games of all time.

I want to be really excited for MGSV but I'm still upset at Kojima for getting a little out of hand with some points of the game. Such as the whole Liquid Ocelot thing, Raiden story in Sons of Liberty and just the whole Patriots thing not being executed to it's full potential. I just wasn't super thrilled when I "Beat the Patriots" at the end of the 4th game.

Now this whole Zero thing where he was clearly an afterthought when Hideo needed a central villain for the series. We'll see how it goes. Hope the story focuses more on Snake, Miller, Emmerich and presents Zero in a believable way so that I can finally accept him as this villain he's just recently been made to be.

Sorry for rambling. Had to get that off my chest. Bring on Ground Zeroes!

Classy move. Although I was always going digital since I'm sick of dealing with the Gamestop employees and can't bare to wait the two days for Amazon Prime!

Well. The first game is very good. But the god damn second one is such a fucking legendary game it made the third game seem weak. And believe me, the third game is a classic. Big-scale, globe-trotting fun with a sleek story, fun characters, incredible set-pieces, frantic gameplay and platforming and not to mention some of the best graphics, ever.

Honestly what's not to like? It's like a playable Indiana Jones. Even Harrison Ford was in awe... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5itvws3OMyQ

I really feel sorry you can't enjoy this classic series. Can't wait for the PS4 incarnation!

Anything made by Nintendo really. I wish they would actually do something original for once instead of jerking off the same old franchises constantly for decades on end.

Assasins creed.

Resident evil.

Gears of war.

Halo.

Final fantasy.

Tomb raider.

Castlevania.

Transformers.

I think your list is as good a place to start as any. I would also add the Uncharted franchise to that list as well.

We need more originality in the gaming industry. They're as bad as Hollywood now in giving us nothing but sequels and regurgitated pap.

Uncharted? Are you insane. We want more, we want more!!! Those games are legendary.

Dare i say it?

The Last Guardian?

Edit: With thuway's leaks that might not be too unlikely actually.

You are correct. It's The Last Guardian.

1 and 3 tie for the best to me.

This is a constant battle for me. Can't chose one. Both are perfection.

I am confused. Are handhelds not mobile gaming? But misleading head line aside, Yes, I'd say it's safe to say cell phones will kill handheld systems.
