I think people are going to quickly realize that the next gen games are pretty much more of the same and not the great leap forward they were hoping for.
This was kind of a fear I had going into the game. I was worried it would be more of the same old, same old. Now granted, it's a wonderful formula and the last two games were great, but I really don't feel like playing essentially the same game a third time.
EA has been doing this for years. Pretty much every popular thing comes to an end eventually, (Rock Band, the Wii etc...), but when people stop playing COD they're probably not going to be playing BF anymore either. It'll be modern military shooter burnout or something.
While I prefer COD myself, (used to be the other way around funnily enough), BF is probably the better series if I'm being completely honest, (MP only - DICE's campaigns are painfully bad). It's pretty hard to beat a casual, pick up and play sort of game though which is why COD wins this bout every year.
I find it odd that EA is waging war with a game that plays entirely differently though. They should try their own hand at a COD clone. That would make more sense if you're trying to dethrone the king.
You're vastly underestimating the importance of a console's launch lineup. It's huge. You want to sell as many units as possible right out of the gate and you do that by having a bunch of games people want to play.
