[QUOTE="Hoffgod"] Disaster: Day of Crisis. Not much known about the game, but the character does seem to be very anti-hero in design.

If the writing in the series wasn't freaking SUPERB each and everytime. I might worry about getting bored.

[QUOTE="-supercharged-"][QUOTE="CajunShooter"][QUOTE="Twisted_Hawk"]

Ever since I have seen Home, I have been thinking that this could be a great idea. It would be a step up in making the PSN match, and possibly even surpass Xbox Live. With so many ways to show off who you really are, it's a great idea of setting up your own identity. However, I have been thinking lately that Home is not the best idea in the world. Too many issues are involved with it to make it a great idea.

To start, there is the risk of cutting off gamers from society. With so many gamers looking for this as a way to reach out and meet new people, it becomes my understanding that if this is popular enough, it may become the norm for meeting new people. Instead of going out to places such as clubs, amusement parks, and work to meet new people, most people will be logging onto home to meet other. Is this really and acceptable norm for society? iPods and MP3 players have already cut society from multiple people in Japan, America, and other places around the world, where they listen to their music all the time as opposed to reaching out and communicating with others. Do we really need to cut of society for good? Let's say at least 2 million users use this feature. If this is the true feature of the PS3, expect at least a few more million people. As it grows and grows, interactions in the real world will decrease and decrease. Soon, no one will be going out in public, and will instead just log on to their computers to reach out with others. The same exact way that Mildred from Farenheit 451 watched TV all day, and considered the actors to be their relatives. It also happened with WoW, where players block out friends and family just to play all day. Is this really an acceptable norm?

Not only is there a major social issue involved, but there is also a major economic issue involved. If the movie theaters in Home turn out to be the way they really are, then we can expect movie theaters to go obsolete. Now, this can be a good thing in the long run, with movies being shown in digital format at the theaters and thus making it easier for people to purchase and view these movies one or two times. However, since movie theaters are now so popular nowadays, the numbers of jobs lost will be tremendous, especially with a non-speciality job changing to a college required one. We also have the risk of people wasting amounts of money purchasing things for their apartment, or from other apartments. It may or may not be true that Sony is charging to put special things inside their apartment, so that's not a fair argument against them just yet. We can argue about the constant selling of apartment space on Ebay though. People already pay huge amounts of money towards high level World of Warcraft accounts, so I can imagine people doing the same with Home apartments that have a great room and excellent rep. Do we constantly need lots of people making money off a service in morbid ways? Do we really need people wasting need money for food, water, electricity, and other necessities just to have the best virtual space they can possibly have?

I understand that Home can be a great concept for the PS3. It would make it a more popular item, especially since it's free. However, there is also that risk of threating social society, especially since the service is free. I hope people subscribing to this service will take these messages to heart so that we don't risk those social, and economic factors threatening our society.

Every single one of those points are flawed. People already isolate themselves in games such as Second Life and the Sims living second lives instead of living there own. People network more than go out and meet people already. Because several million PS3 owners have home it isnt going to change the world. Even if lets say Sony sells 100 million PS3s this gen. Only about 40-60% will actually have online and even fewer will even participate in Home.

That also brings up the flaw in the last statement about movies. If there are 100 million PS3s sold there may only be 10-20 million who actually participate and use Home to download movies. That still leaves hundreds and hundreds of millions of people that can still go out and watch movies at a local theatre.

Home is not going to destroy the world sorry.

What about Myspace as well? I guess those million's of people have no social life because they have to get on a internet website just to talk to their friends.

Theres a difference between simply using the internet as a means of communicating with friends and solely relying on the internet to make virtual friends. I find the 2nd one disturbing, especially when it's trying to emulate real life.

Even if HOME became the phenomenon you think it'll be (it won't) whats so bad about making friends online? Some people are super shy IRL and only in forums and other stuff like this can they get their inhibitions out of the way. Maybe give them the confidence to be who they really are IRL. That's hardly disturbing, And a society that interacts mainly trough the Metaverse (which is long way off, if it ever happens) is not nearly as bad as you make it out to be.

HOME won't replace society's IRL interaction. WoW does that for some people (not all of them) but I seriously doubt HOME can provide the entretainment to keep you walking around doing emoticons.

[QUOTE="riflecow"] [QUOTE="munsoned"]i think it is nintendos fault.they are making a good profit on each console sold.make crappy mini games packing them with held back wii motes and other controlers.and they cant even spend some money to get some good third party devs to make them good games.ive about had it with nintendo them cheap basardsmunsoned

They have no where else to pull resources from, then can't pull it from other divisions since they only have gaming. And even if they do the stockholders will go crazy and take away all funding reducing the money they can spend paying off developers, it's a spiraling circle. Cut Nintendo some slack they went from a horrible hype with Gamecube to the crazy hype they have now. I just hope they have a plan to harvest that hype now.

r u kidding me? nintendo has been making game systems since the 80s. u think they aint ubber rich?hpye i like them hype ads i see on tv where i see all them japs playing the wii with big smiles on their faces it aint b/c they are having fun its b/c they are making a killing off us lol

As opposed to being a game company just for sh!ts and giggles? You need to wisen up. If the games fail, nintendo fails it may be a "big" company but it relies solely on one market, if a big investment goes Virtual Boy they might not live to see another gen. Now you know why they can't pull a Microsoft and bleed 4 billion to get a piece of the marketshare.

Really for the last few days every thread gets spammed with anti-wii comments, so that HAS to mean hype is raising. Amirite?
