Hm, the review focuses a lot on the story, like it is reviewing a movie. Does it mean the game is a neverending series of cutscenes interrupting the gameplay?
Also, I would like to know more about the level layout. Is it linear or non-linear? These two factors are very important for a single player game. I would not want to watch all those cutscenes twice, and if you have no freedom of choice in claustrophobic levels with simple maze-layout, you also have limited replayability.
What is the normal playthrough time? is it dumbed down for easy playing, or can you crank up the difficulty so it is actually challenging for those of us who dont want to just point and shoot our way through a collection of cutscenes?
I feel this review left many important questions unexplored. Still not sure it deserves an outstanding 8.
@hitomo It is actually the exact opposite of what you just said. Big game companies have plunged into repetitive mediocrity. They invest so much money in each game, they do no longer dare to do anything new, just take what sold well before and squeeze in a bit more cutscenes and shiny graphics, topping it with tons of expensive advertisements to brainwash people to buy the same cr*p over and over.
Indie games shines because they dare to explore new ideas, and dive into unknown territory. They are awesome, and several of my favorite games these days are Indie games. Indie games rocks, and the traditional game industry has a lot to learn from it.
This game reminds me of those old books where you could "choose your own story". You read for a while, then make a choice and turn to a page representing your choice. Once in a while you threw a dice to see what your choices would lead to, such as who would win a fight. Pretty linear and boring, with no real gameplay. Just like this game. But, sure, if you like a million cutscenes instead of a game, then here is what you are looking for...
This game is not for everyone. Some love it, some hate it. 5.0 is a purely subjective score and says more about the reviewer than the game. Trust the average user score.
Kudos for Bandai for not doing like everyone else and make games thats edible for everyone, including your mum and grandma. We need more games with a strong personality.
@thomanji @strikeTact I do not think Bethesda will ignore the poor reception of ESO. They should stick to what they know best and what their fans really want.
Why does GS love multiplayer shooters so much? I find the whole concept pretty flawed, since the experience totally depends on the quality of the other players. By quality I mean, if they are jerks or nice, if they suit your level and so on. I much prefer coop against the computer.
@PeejayYeh @aegis_kleais Unfortunately, PC is not winning since the consoles are getting the developer priority. These days you are hardly even allowed to own a PC, unless it is made by Apple and then you are not allowed to call it a PC, but must address it as a Mac. Something about PCs not being pretty enough, and the need to be trendy.
