1. It depends. If you have PS2 games that you still want to play (and don't own a PS2 for some reason), you'll want the 80GB. The 40GB does not have backwards compatibility. The size of the hard drive is also something to consider, too. Will you be putting a lot of audio and video on the system? If so, you'll appreciate the extra storage space that the 80GB offers. You can, however, upgrade the hard drive yourself at a later time without voiding the warranty.

You might have to return it. Im pretty sure apple covers faulty ipods for couple months (maybe more) and if you got yours rescently they will replace it for sure. Skellington27

I dont know about that specific generation of ipods but did you try the hard reset function: pause/play button play the select button. hold that and see what happens\Frostbyte1120
