In the age of demos, reviews, and gameplay vids there's no excuse for anyone to get a game they don't like

Jaysonguy

Just cause you have someone elses opinion on the game, or watched someone else played it doesnt mean you know if youll like it or not.

No, it really does

Reviews tell you what's in the game and if it works or not and gameplay vids show you way the game performs with things like lag and framerate issues

I mean heck, the game you didn't like had a demo that was like an hour. I don't even know how the heck you could actually get a game you didn't like after an hour

It's like you said "wow I really didn't enjoy the hour of gameplay I just did, I bet I could increase this feeling by 10 fold if I bought the game"

Honestly, no idea how anyone gets a bad game today, I can see it happening in 1985 for sure and even in 1995 there's a chance but we're in the generation of consoles that started in 2005, no way should that happen today.

It's just not using the ability we have to research games.

Agreed in full. Society has changed so much that serious gamers (those who read gaming magazines in teh past and read websites like GameSpot today), are unlikely to buy a bad game.

There is of course one flaw in your logic, which is Day-One Purchases. Day-One purchases have only caused me pain once, WWE SVR 2008, I believe (that's when I was a huge wrestling fan, thankfully that's over).

Even so, one can oftenget a general sense of te worth of a game based or previews and trailers, before Day-One. Anyway, seems like it's time I rush out to buy the next installment of Fight Night. =P

I may be mistaken, but doesn't signing up for PayPal require a Credit Card? Maybe I should look into this.

Second, I just remembered something, I believe my debit card will work for these transactions.

Maybe PayPal has the same feature, looking into it as I type.

Now I'd love to use GOG and Steam, but there's a little problem there, credit card usage. I don't have my own credit card, my parents won't give me one and won't let me use their's. This leaves me in quite a bind, for around a a year and 6 months, when I should be able to get my own credit card.

Regardless, I think the suggested games seem adequate for the time being, provided I can get my hands on them.

Thank you for all the suggestions and advice!

Thanks for the constructive criticism!

First, I fully understand this is a rip-off, I load of research before buying anything. Truth be told, my parents are... what's the word I'm looking for? Difficult?

I could easily build a PC just for gaming for this price that would be much better, but my parents refused to let me build a computer, or get one built by by a small PC builder. This left me in quite the bind and I ended up springing for the best desktop they had at Future Shop (in Canada, I should add, which makes a huge difference). Don't worry about returning it or any of that, that won't be happening unless I'm downgrading and the only other PC close to this level has very similar specs except for a 6770. I would consider it a huge blunder, though not entirely on my part, my parents just love brand names.

I even looked at ibuypower.com, but sadly my parents didn't want to order anything online, plus they've never heard of them. Also, thank you to ionusx, I just learned something new, in that the second digit specifies the usage, thank you.

I hope to be building my own gaming rig with my own money in maybe a year or two, provided I get a part-time job (or don't spend all my money on the 3DS NGP and new games for my consoles...)

So, new qustion, what can I play? If Crysis is out of the question, that's disheartening, but according to the System Requirements Checker on the EA website, this pile of junk can play Crysis... Is it just that it won't run at a smooth frame rate, or that I can't achieve high settings on here? I'm not quite understanding.

Anyway,SC2 sounds like a good start and The Sims games next. A lot of these older games seem to have had a lasting impact, so I will be sure to play them.

One last question, possibly the most important. MMOs. Should I play WoW, or wait for Star Wars The Old Republic? (I would include DC Universe Online, but reviews haven't been good).

Thanks again!

You just need to break it in. Get Uncharted and Uncharted 2, start playing and you'll forget that you're on a console, the experience will absorb you.

Good luck!

It's a Rockstar game, how can you not be xcited? =S

Not only that, they're branching out, doing something new, something that's not mission based like GTA or RDR.

The setting is enthralling, similar to RDR, from my perspective as I haven't had much exposure to say movies depicting that era. Either way it looks like an entire new world for us to explore and it sounds like they're giving us a HUGE area to explore.

Can't wait...
