It's probably a no-brainer that there's something wrong with the video card if it'll only work in one out of the three motherboards, but I thought I'd run it by you guys before RMAing it. It just doesn't make sense that it'll work in one board but not any others...
The new board I needed it to work in is a Gigabyte socket AM2, the other two were Foxconn and Biostar budget 939 boards. The only board I've got it working in is an Asus budget 939 board.
The only other thing I think it could be might be my PSU (linked below), but as far as I can tell it's more than powerful enough to run an AM2 system with a 3850.

Processor is an X2 4800+.
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
I just ordered this: http://www.neutronexpress.com/prod.cfm/351562/DFI/LANPARTYUTNF4D/LAN_SOCKET_939_DDR400_ATX_MOTHERBOARD
I hope I don't have any problems with these guys...
EDIT: Thanks for the offer Baselerd, but I'd made the order before I saw your message.
Actually, scratch that... pcprogress.com has awful customer reviews.
*sigh* Back to the drawing board...
Huge thanks for the replies and info.
I've had bad luck with MSI and Jetway in the past too.
I think I'm gonna go for this budget version of fivex84's mobo... Abit KN8 board http://www.pcprogress.com/product.asp?PID=ABKN8&m1=pg
$99 with free shipping should hopefully fit my needs. As long as it runs stable that's all I'm really asking for...
It sucks when your budget forces you into a lottery when buying hardware. :(
Thanks again!
I have a socket 939 Athlon X2 4200+, an X-Fi XtremeMusic and a Radeon 3850, which are all sitting in the biggest piece of *expletive deleted* motherboard in history: an Asus A8V-VM SE.
After days of trying (and failing) to get this system running stable, I've discovered that the mobo actually throttles the amount of power it gets if it goes over 50 degrees, which basically makes it completely useless for gaming.
I always buy my stuff from Newegg, but they only have three other socket 939 boards and none of them are suitable for gaming based on the customer reviews.
Does anyone know of a decent, stable socket 939 board for gaming that's available from a reputable web retailer? Doesn't need to be SLI and I have $100 to throw at it
Any help will be hugely appreciated.
Haven't heard about any problems from owners of the card with the latest drivers, but I also forgot about this.
No benchmarks for the 256MB version of the 8800GT yet but I think the performance is the same, maybe a little less.

Oh I like the look of that. I think I'm gonna get it.
Thanks for the info, buddy.
whats your powersupply you need to know that before you buy any cardmastershake575
Here's my PSU... 500W should cover everything.

The 3850 is by far the best deal. The performance is amazing and price is small. I say give ATi another try. The 3850 pimp slaps the 7950GT :DChubbyGuy40
OK. Now I'm interested.
ATI does have a rep for bad drivers though... Am I likely to face problems?
