I've had huge problems with ATI cards... Hard locks and bad drivers. This was a couple years back though, but I pretty much vowed never to use them again.

What kind of difference in performance are we talking?

I have 200 bucks to spend on a new video card at Newegg. I'm not interested in DX10, and it has to be Nvidia. After looking around, this is what I've come up with:
