Would you recommend the correct forum, please? My understanding was that this was PC Hardware. I am trying to connect an iPod Touch to my PC using Windows 7. If there is a more appropriate forum, I'm happy to repost.

Thank you,

Boz

Is anyone using their iPod without iTunes?

My wife got a free iPod Touch from her father, but I have issues with Apple. I'm happy to let her use the iPod, but I don't want to install iTunes if I can avoid it. It seems like iTunes is required, however, just to recognize the device, let alone use it.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,

Boz

The front audio jack on PCs is really meant for people who use onboard.ChubbyGuy40
This is not true. There is one front-panel header on the right side of the Xonar DG card to plug into the case's headphone cable (these are internal cables). You would need to take the front-panel headphone jack cable and plug it directly into the pins on your card on the inside of your case, if it wasn't already installed correctly. The Asus Xonar DG has a "sensor" to determine whether you've plugged your headphones in the front or rear.

If you're not sure whether your headphone cable is plugged directly into your Xonar DG, open the side of your case and look to see if anything is plugged into the card. If not, remove the audio cable from the pins on your motherboard and plug it into the sound card.

Voila: expansion card audio headphone access on the front of your case.

I checked it out. I like the Denon reciever, and when I looked up the speakers, I instantly fell in love. I appreciate yours, and everyone elses help. I've found what I'm looking for.UFC_Guy7234
Just remember to buy the necessary wiring to support your new system. You'll need speaker cable at a minimum, but HDMI cables for your television and the optional iPod dock for that Denon receiver. Those additional items can add up, so be sure to get everything you need beforehand. I get all my wiring from Parts Express; the prices and service are excellent. Good luck, Boz

If you're not overclocking there is no reason to buy an aftermarket cooler. The stock cooler is sufficient for stock speeds when installed properly.

If and when you decide to venture into overclocking you can decide whether you need an aftermarket cooler based on CPU temps as you conduct testing.

Good luck,

SYNC is a great feature and, now that it's been introduced, I wonder why it wasn't launched years ago! I'd really like to see the video embedded in the upper-right of the front page, pushing down "Most Popular" in the right bar. As the front page gets updated, SYNC is occassionally lost.

Happy gaming,

I thought this might be the case; it's rare that anyone wants a dedicated two-channel stereo anymore, but I agree that it's what it sounded like, originally. Without knowing the size or shape of your room, I'm going to go ahead and recommend the Denon AVR-1912 home theater receiver and Aperion Intimus 4T Hybrid SD speaker system, which is basically the setup recommended by C|Net. Normally C|Net makes me hesitant, but It really is a great value and hits your $2,000 price point. If you're looking to save a few bucks, you can swap out various speakers in the system (Aperion Audio is a wonderful company, in general), but that receiver is very versatile and has great quality ratings. The speakers - especially if you decide to keep the towers - will be able to do both two- and multi-channel surround audio justice. The speakers are also relatively small even with the towers, so should work in a variety of rooms and for a variety of music, movies, and games. Good luck, Boz

I was under the impression he wanted a 2 channel stereo, but again lack of details we can't be sure. If he does indeed want 2 channel then the speakers+separates I suggested would be a great pairing and he can still pick a pre-amp to suit his needs.

So something like a UPA-2 + Ty D4M's would only be $1500 (both free shipping). Leaving ~$500 for his pre-amp.NVIDIATI

Oh, I'm not saying the equipment you recommended was bad! It's just that all we really know is that the user wants a nice stereo for "his/her room," and that they have a maximum budget of ~$2,000 (but would like to spend less). It's like having someone tell you they want to invest in stock without knowing how old they are, how much money they make, or what is their investment tolerance, just that they want to make money. There's just not enough information to make an accurate recommendation.

You might recommend all that high-end equipment and come to find (s)he's looking for surround sound, at which point you've wasted your time. :( Better to ask follow-up questions and try and get them the right equipment for their needs. ;)

Oh yeah: Two smilies, one paragraph. It's a good day.

That was awesome fun guys. Sorry to the people i shot in the face. Repeatedly. :)lim_ak

You were snipe-tastic.

not my pc for sure, not used to play with 80-90 ping. and i say half the people had 100+ ping. of course it's the server. didnt know GS will use free valve server otherwise i could have used mine for last night.Mehfuz

It's not a matter of what Gamespot picked: Nobody had a server picked out. Jody said the plan was to server hop, but the server browser was down. The only reason we even had a server was because I happened to Favorite that particular server the prior night when I was practicing and had the IP address handy to redistribute.

I had a good time despite my inability to stay alive for very long.

Happy gaming,

Without providing details you're going to get responses like the ones above. What are you using it for? Home theater or just two-channel audio (i.e. music)? What are you going to be listening to besides your iPod, if anything? Are you planning to plug in any game systems, blu-ray, HD receivers, or other audio sources? How important is integration (meaning on remote versus several)? Do you have neighbors that'll get upset by heavy bass?

The more detail you provide, the better you answers will be. :)
