For those that have spent time in Orbiter, how does this compare? I have spent about a decade with Orbiter, and with releases slowing could use something newer.
From the videos it looks like kind of like FS4 with buildable vehicles, which could be fun, but are there cockpits and flight sim like controls and such like in Oribiter?
This game needs a serious graphics upgrade. Halo games just haven't improved enough gameplay-wise this generation to justify another release with now-tired graphics.
Should have waited for 720...or released on PC :p. A new trilogy needs a new engine.
I like that it LOOKS like Far Cry (the Crytek PC original) but all that phsychological thriller stuff seems gone. The graphics also look like they've taken a downgrade in the past year or two.
Multiplayer looks like a lot of other games (mainly chaotic, little death consequence, little motivation). The graphics would have been impressive if the game came out a few years ago like expected, but now looks fairly ho hum.
Aliens is one game where a coridor crawl actually makes sense, my hope is that they play to the IP's strength and not necessarily try to throw a bunch of stuff in to compete with all the other shooter brands.
The best thing I remember about AvP 2 marine campaign was the tension, even the fear of going around the next corner. James Cameron and Co already provided great atmosphere, music, sound effects, etc, so this game is more about how well those cinematic elements can be translated to an interactive, first person experience than the content the developers can create. I hope the single player demonstrates this much more than the deathmath used in the demo.
Honestly, I wish developers would leave out competive multiplayer here, it's already been done within the Aliens/Predator universe, and it has kind of sucked.
Crytek like id and Valve before them are major innovators in shooters, but still haven't lived up to the gameplay of the original Far Cry in my opinion. Graphics-wise, its a shame they are being hampered to their 2006ish tech by the ancient console hardware. The PS3 GPU still uses pipelines, folks...PIPELINES!
Gimme a break. Remember what happened when E3 was cancelled? That sucked, it was a terrible idea for the industry.
Don't blame the industry's problems on E3. Just because a global recession has extended the current consoles' lifetimes into unprecedented territory and brought the pace of innovation in gaming to a screeching halt, doesn't mean people don't want to see an industry-wide bash when said innovation resumes.
As a high-end PC gpu I'm underwhelmed by the 680, but I think it might just be the perfect fit for the new Consoles. First, it's very small, about half the size of the 580, this will make it cheap to produce in mass for a low margin item like a game console. Second, they stripped out a lot of the GPGPU performance. GPGPU is thr sole reason enterprises buy nvidia products, so the 680 is clearly not ment to win that market like the last few flagships. Lastly, and largely because of the last 2 reasons, it is the most power efficient high end GPU. The space and cooling constraints of a console make this a huge selling point. Especially because AMD has chosen to add more features unnecessary for a console, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the 680 is exactly the GPU that shows up in thex Nextbox or PS4.
I reinstalled HL2 a week or so ago for my must be my 5th or 6th replay of that great game. 2004 was a great year for inovative shooters: Far Cry (environments), Doom 3 (graphics), and HL2 (narrative, physics).
As a PC player that has no love for either of the consoles (since N64), I would say that I enjoyed Halo for the PC. I've beaten the game several times (even once in the past year). I rented an Xbox to play Halo 2 a few months after its release. Having never touched an Xbox before I was surprised when I beat it in less than 10 hours. Frankly, having already played the PC version, I didn't think the graphics were very good in Halo 2 and in some ways a downgrade from the original (I thought the Halo Warthog on PC looked better than Halo 2 Warthog on Xbox). The game itself was also kind of boring, with some very frustrating gameplay, and a confusing storyline. I'm considering finding a way to play Halo 3, even if it means buying a 360. Looking at these screenshots, some stuff looks amazing, but other stuff looks like it could be from Halo 2. Its really a mixed bag. At least they put the assault rifle back in. $0.02
Quake Wars made the list??? Maybe if it had come out with Quake 4 as the multiplayer, but come on, its gonna be BF2142 running in OpenGL, and BF2142 was bad enough as it was. How can there be no Crysis!?! That is THE game of 2007 along with Halo 3 (which only makes the list becuase of the following and because console people don't know any better). I agree with Bioshock and some of the others, but HL2: Episode Two shouldn't qualify becuase its more of an expansion pack than a whole game, that said I'm really looking forward to it and Portal.
