Those are low key games. DS was sold as a huge AAA sony title with tons of hype. These big titles are expected to have more action and to be more violent.

I don't think games like DS should be marketed to the BRO-crowd. Which is how you get a reaction that's not warranted.

DS is a niche style game, unfortunately marketed to dude-bros who are like UPS THE GAME LULZ.

The rest of us are like...omg UPS the game..its amazing. Which it is.

low key games? Are you serious? Are you aware how huge Sims is?

Low key huge. It's not like gamespot has 50 articles when a sim game launches, now do they?

Also those games are well known and not advertised to the dude bro gamer.

Let's also not forget that the dude-bro crowd and "core gamers" routinely shit on non-violent games like The Sims, casual games, and mobile games. So it should come as no surprise that the same dude-bro crowd is now shitting on a non-violent game like DS. They love violent action games, and hate games that are non-violent (except for sports games, obviously).

Exactly. Add Minecraft to the list.

Heck, MGS only got a pass because it gave you the OPTION to be violent.

Which I never preferred. DS is full of so much positive energy. Reconnection, helping eachother, non violent means of getting things done. It's also about the quiet moments to our destination as well as the tense ones when BT's or Mules appear.

The game is remarkable. Unless you're a dude bro gamer...it's not.

This will be like Yooka Laylee. Careful what you wish for...it may feel old and dated.

Violent action games.

I think he's right about DS not being a violent game and getting flack for it.

Americans love killing and destroying things, which you do in all those games listed.

Personally I think that's a bullshit, fuckwod shield to deflect criticism, putting down the audience at the risk of damaging his own self-inflated worth, where he's been surrounded with people gassing him up.

Casual games like the Sims to Stardew Valley etc.. sell millions upon millions.

This is absolutely nothing new. It's proven people (from all countries) will happily play non-violent games be it solo or co-op.

He's talkin' shite m8.

Shite.

So how did Uncharted and Horizon Zero Dawn do so well then? Spiderman? God of War? Breath of the Wild? That's a stupid comment.

When an artist can no longer accept genuine criticism of his art to help him improve in the future, it's time to stop making art.

I think people are taking his words too far. I imagine he's taken tons of criticism. He's made games his whole life.

Also, there are plenty of grumpy artists who can't take criticism, but that doesn't mean they have to stop.

People don't need permission to make art. Not from anyone.

@Bread_or_Decide: your data is kind of obsolete (June 2019). I google and find lists where Days Gone is gone. Like this https://www.npd.com/wps/portal/npd/us/news/top-10/ оr https://www.gamespot.com/articles/these-will-be-the-top-10-best-selling-games-of-201/1100-6470004/. Maybe it's US only, but it is what it is.

Google "Best selling games of 2019 so far" and you'll find similar things,

Ah yes, up to date info has a different list.

Days Gone did pretty well, especially in the UK. I remember it stayed on the charts for awhile.

That sounds about right. I didn't get Days Gone until it went on sale though, paid only $30 and worth the price too.

Edit: By the way, how far are you in the game? I'll be finish by Thursday I hope.

16 hours in. So almost halfway.
