Anime of the Week

Welcome to this weeks Anime of the Week. I felt like starting a new thing to do and thought, well why not an anime review? I guess this will be a thing every Friday that way you guys can check out my recommendations over the weekend. So here it is:
Issue # 1
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan
(Lit. Club-to-Death Angel Dokuro-chan)
This is by far one of the most ridiculous, off the wall animes I have seen mainly because of its crazy humor. Basically this anime is about this kid named Sakura Kusakabe, a second-year junior high school student who sometime in the future is going to offend God by inventing immortality. Sure immortality sounds great until you find out that by inventing this it stops all women in the world from aging past the age of twelve creating a "pedophile world". So how does God fix this problem? He sends an Angel, Dokuro Mitsukai, to assassinate Sakura in his adolenscent years. Not only does she have the power to kill but she also has the power to raise the dead. Believing that Sakura can be redeemed, Dokuro always brings Sakura back to life each time after she kills him - with her gigantic spiked club which she so affectionately calls Excalibolg.
Of course this anime contains the typical sexual humor seen in just about all the animes of the same nature whether it's Ranma 1/2 or Kenshin with your nosebleeds and everything, but it's not hentai. Dokuro-chan basically makes Sakura's life to be a living hell with her killing him all the time and trying everything in her power to distract him from his studies. There's even a reference to the popular tv personality Hard Gay in the last episode clearly making this an anime meant for Japanese audiences unless you just happen to know Japanese pop culture.
This series is actually very short containing only 8 episodes so it can be watched in less than a day. I'm sure if they really wanted to they could have prolonged the series to the usual 51 episodes or so, but at least it ends in a good way leaving the possibility for future episodes. The animation is fairly good; the typical style for this day in age and the music/intro is also very amusing. The voice acting is pretty good but I have yet to hear the english dubbed version. If you can find this anime on DVD, go ahead and get it, it'll probably be the cheapest anime series you will have ever purchased. If not the whole "season" is on youtube so check it out there.
I hope you enjoy this little gem of an anime as I know I did watching it at work
Pipiru piru piru pipiru pi!
