If the TC ever saw the GAPING DRAGON, he would shart ... I guarantee it.
Dark Souls / Demon's Souls isn't for everyone. If your main argument is the difficulty being the main selling point of the game, then you misunderstand it completely. The selling point of the game is the challenge of fitting your personal way of playing RPG's into the build of your character. If your way doesn't quite fit in a specific area, then you have to figure out a way to MAKE it fit while getting pummeled by enemies because you stupidly ran right into a trap. You Die. You go back and figure it all out and HOPEFULLY make it to a firepit and repeat with different enemies / weapons / attack patterns. The challenge NEVER ends.
I don't like games that have a checkpoint every 5 seconds and end in 5 hours ... * COUGH* (Star Wars Force Unleashed II) - THOSE games are for you, it seems. Stick to those and don't talk trash about more sophisticated games you can't understand or figure out on your own.
the further you get in the game, the easier it is to navigate through firepits. There is also something you can purchase to take you to other firepits instead of backtracking through elevators and stairwells. The online was smooth for me the only time I tried it with a friend. I won't be playing online again, just for the fact that your friend goes away after the boss is killed and we ran through the level in 10 minutes. It is better to play alone or get help from a stranger if you need it ... If you don't like playing RPG's by yourself, then I assume you really never played any before the newer generation consoles.
It is only hard compared to the easier games out now. Demon's Souls was a really good game with low to medium difficulty ... Dark Souls is more Medium to middle'ish difficulty. I have played for 8 hours and have a Soul Level 33 and flying through it, it seems. There are only a couple of places I won't go through yet, but I have explored most of the map so far. It looks and playstoo amazing to stop.
[QUOTE="Fightingfan"][QUOTE="bblundell"] I disagree with you.orion_52
I agree with you, all the lock on does is change the field of view towards the enemy.
Try hitting an enemy with soul arrow at range without locking on.
tried and accomplished ... loved doing this to the Tower Knight and Maneater - haven't needed it in Dark Souls yet, but will get it tonight and let you know
I'm gonna get the game this weekend but I have a feeling the more open world design may not work for meand will also effect the overall feeling of the game. I prefer the more linear gameplay of demon souls. I guess I'll see this weekend...

Dark Souls is a linear game, and like Demon's Souls, it takes some exploration. You do NOT have a Nexus, but you do have firepits ... and from there it is linear. there is NOTHING "open world" about it
Not exactly true. The game is a mix of linear and open world. You see, games like Oblivion are 100% open world, whereas a game like Dark Souls is more like 50. There are a ton of side bosses, hidden treasure, and shortcuts to find, but the main game is pretty linear, and it's not nearly as open as a game like Oblivion. It is open in the sense that it isn't structured into near Archstones like last game, which I really really like, since I personally feel that Demon's Souls would have been better as an open world game, and now with Dark Souls that has been confirmed. It also makes the game much harder since you never know 100% where you should be going next, and getting back to an easier area or doing something else will be just as difficult as it was getting there. I love this game!
UGH> Did you even PLAY Demon's Souls? It has "Hidden treasure" and "side bosses" also. This is the SAME layout only with a firepit where you CAN NOT choose to go to different worlds. I think that is VERY linear.
