In a momentary lapse in judgement, I went out and bought Wario Ware: Smooth Moves. Everything I read was telling me that the game was great and that fun and laughter abound from start to finish. That's great for the first hour, after which this game goes straight to file 13 until my stoner friends show up and need their short attention spans assualted with frantic, seizure inducing lights and noises.
This game is only for the multiplayer crowd, of which I don't belong. As long as my wife won't game with me, I'll just stick with those games that can offer me a more lasting experience. The way I look at it, if a game lasts 50 hours and costs 50 bucks, that comes out to 1 dollar per hour of gameplay. Using this brilliant formula, I just paid 50 bucks for 1 hour of fresh gameplay. While Smooth Moves is not a bad game, it is not worth buying.
How was I stupid enough to buy this game without renting it first? Ugghhh...

InuYasha, say it ain't so
by Camble on Comments
I guess that most InuYasha fans have, through extensive investments of time and money, already seen the ending of the series long ago. I am a fan, but in the casual sense. I get my InuYasha fix straight from adult swim. Last week, the last episode was aired on adult swim. I can't believe that after watching this show for 3 or 4 years, InuYasha and his friends not only fail to gather the shikon jewel shards, but they don't even kill Naraku. These being the ultimate goals that the characters have been seeking since the second episode, I would have to say I was a bit disappointed. Even more disappointing was the fact that InuYasha had just placed a jewel shard in his sword, and it seemed that through Kagome's love, he had figured out a way to harness his demon powers.
Only in retrospect do I see how dorky all of this must sound. Hopefully whomever reads this is a fan of the show, or is as dorky as me:wink:

That time and once again
by Camble on Comments
I'm bouncing round the room. Getting older sucks. I'm 24 now, but I remember being 14. Ten years ago when I bought final fantasy seven, I remember having seemingly endless amounts of time and energy to devote to the game. I quickly maxed out the clock on that game at 99h99m, and went on to do all of that chocobo breeding/racing waste of time for at least a hundred more hours. Now, I have had final fantasy twelve since its midnight release and have only played about an hour and a half of it. With great power comes great responsibility and a great loss of free time to do the things you like.
The Gamer Demographic
by Camble on Comments
I think you could consider gamers as a demographic, because they often use their tv sets as monitors for their video game consoles. Therefore, the shows they watch are fewer and farther between than non-gamers.
So, what do gamers watch? If I was connected to enough "friends" on this website, I would do a message board and post the results.

My Admission

I don't pretend that I know very much about computers; though I wish I did. I don't even know what the good websites are, or even understand how something could gain popularity on the internet. I mean, it seems like each person experiences the internet in different ways. I just don't even get it. If someone out there could suggest some cool websites to me, I would appreciate it.
Anyway, the point is, I know that digg is probably old news to many, and probably popular too, but I only recently stumbled upon it. When it appeared on first CNN and then right here on Gamespot, I took a deeper look and got a username. I was very impressed by one of the first things I read. It was a description of a research paper one student had constructed for his class on the topic of "video games as art". In it, he threw out the assumption that this idea would be considered controversial. This couldn't be right. I mean, computer animation, film techniques, construction of narrative- these all sound like the elements of an artform to me.
How someone would see this and not think that it was a work of art is beyond me. When you consider that this is one single moment in a game that retains this look and texture for over thirty hours of amazing gameplay, you can see that this artform may actually surpass the conservative genres like photography and animation in many new ways. I see video games as an amazing mixture of literature and visual arts (drawing, sculpting, painting, animation, film...).
Well, it was just something that got me thinking. Besides, it doesn't matter to me whether or not video games gets critical recognition as an artform, as long as I appreciate them in that way.

In Nintendo Wii Trust
by Camble on Comments
I reserved the Nintendo Wii for three reasons: the old school games you can download, the low price, and the fact that I won't need two-thousand dollars of home theater equipment to get my money's worth. I was still skeptical until very recently as to the advantage of the controller, but the more game footage I see in GameSpot's video archives the more I like it. I think that once I sit down with the contoller and get used to it, it will be loads of fun and a whole new experience in gaming. Each game will be able to utilize the controller in different ways, making the gameplay possibilities endless. Nintendo doesn't usually stand up to the graphic capabilities of other consoles, but there is no denying their nack for gameplay.
Emblem Libre

Just when I was wondering how people got those emblems on their profiles, two new ones magically appeared on mine: PS2 and Tagger Flirt. Yeah.
Since this is somewhat of an online journal, I'll go on and record some important things happening in my life. Three weeks from this Saturday I will be marrying the love of my life and jetting off to the peaceful shores of Cancun, Mexico for a few days of love-making and sun-bathing. To add to the cake that I'm eating, I just recently decided to quit my dead-end job and to get back into school and get my degree. The long hours of FedEx Home Delivery and the not so great pay without benefits sparked this decision. I see myself as more of a nine to five kind of guy.
So, where do I see myself in five years? Married, raising a baby and possibly working as an editor or a writer for magazines, although the idea of being a stay at home dad kind of appeals to me (I wonder if there would be time to play video games as a stay at home dad). Wish me cyber luck.

Pimpin' ain't easy

I just went to EB Games to throw down a few extra bones on Madden for the Wii (it's the only way to reserve the Wii until they actually have an official release date). While I was there I convinced my girlfriend to ask about getting a part-time job because she is hunting for a new job right now. I'll keep the blog posted on what happens, but the dude seemed like she would have a good chance. I think that her hot body and low cut shirt might have actually helped her chances of landing the job, plus the guy said that there is a shortage of women at the store, so her application would go right to the top (euphemism noted). It would be killer if she got the job and could get a discount. Keep your virtual fingers crossed.
