[QUOTE="Rattlesnake_8"]I want to preorder this and get it day 1 but I also don't want to support this sort of thing.. I'll pick it up used when it's cheap. The first game was awesome, but I don't want to support this sort of crap. Preorder bonuses are nice freebies, but when they take content out of the game like difficulty modes it's ridiculous.wiouds

Wow you are getting angery about preorder extra that is not content cut from the game.

Short sighted people amuse me.

Fun fact: Gaming is better value for money now than it has ever been. I get to play all the demos I want without ever having to buy demo discs. With PS Plus I get a ridiculous amount of games for what the price of one new full retail game is. £40 down and I get new games every month without paying another penny. That's a level of value that no prior console generation has come anywhere close to offering. And look how cheap smaller digital games are. Oh and if you're a PC gamer you have Steam sales. Very good value for money there. I do not see a problem with publishers making a little extra money from DLC as long as gaming remains as good value for money as it currently is. People really exaggerate this kind of thing. I never buy DLC, yet not once have I ever felt like I don't own the full game. Very rarely does DLC offer anything meaningful. I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not having it. But it's a nice way for publishers to make a little extra money and extend the life of a game for the type of people willing to buy it, and I support that.

I guess I'm just a bit old fashioned when it comes to games still. I remember when things like getting new outfits and costumes were unlocked by actually playing the game. Now, it seems you have to pony up cash just to get them and to see the true ending these days ( from what I hear Dead Space 3 does this, and 2008 Prince of Persia), I just think they are slowly desensitizing us to paying for these things and will try to make it the norm one day, and then when they give an ending away for free or costumes it will make us seem like we got a bargain when it should've been standard in the first place. Maybe I'm a bit cynical when it comes to our species and greed, but then again, human history is really, REALLY dark. But that is a whole new subject entirely that I won't delve into.

[QUOTE="Grammaton-Cleric"]

Classic slippery-slope fallacy.

And do we even have confirmation that the new Metro game requires DLC to unlock the difficulty or is it something that can be accessed after beating the game on a lower setting?

Regardless, DLC, like so many other things, is a mix of positives and negatives. I've yet to see any real evidence of DLC being the corrosive element so many have claimed and I certainly haven't seen any evidence of the type of hyperbolic scenario the OP is suggesting.

I agree.

But yes, Ranger Mode is DLC. You can get it either by preordering the game or paying out $5 for it, but it has been called DLC.

I dislike the practice and I think keeping away a particular difficulty mode (especially one that's advertised "play the game as it was meant to be played") is insulting. However, I don't see this becoming the norm and I don't think it's going to lead to something even more excessive. I simply won't buy the product new as to not support this type of business practice.

You give human beings too much credit, lol.

Zelda. Never honestly was a big fan of GTA. Yeah, the games are okay, but I'd much, much rather play Red Dead Redemption or a new western game by Rockstar.

I don't really care for the whole city/crime metropolis thing. Just seems senseless

It really isn't anything special. It's one of the few PSX RPG's I never bothered to finish and I owned it back then. They really needed more time to develop their story scenes more, the lacks of flowing animations for their sprites makes everything look to mechanicle.

Its really on the level of Suikoden 1, an well that isn't bad, its just not all that amazing either.

Spites? I actually didn't realize the game had used sprites with that budget for the game. I lost a bit of expectation there, but the game still might be good if I try it. Not too fond of sprite based Jrpgs with a few exceptions.

Check out some gameplay footage of it. You may be surprised.

When it comes to DLC and charging extra for locked away content, I have reached the point where I will no longer stand for the penny pinching antics of the big publishers.  In future I will simply wait for the inevitable 'GOTY' editions that come complete with everything for a cheaper price - or simply ignore the DLC entirely.  If they chose to design their games around micro-transactions, I won't buy them.  If they lock away half the content behind a paywall, I won't buy them.

Honestly, if developers don't want me to experience the full game on the disk, I just won't bother getting them in the future.   I've reached that point where I won't put up with any more bullshit, because games are just another form of entertainment, and I'm tired of jumping through hoops just trying to have some fun.  The direction that the industry seems to be moving, with an online focus complete with micro-transactions and endless DLC, is not a direction I'm prepared to follow.  There's a line I won't cross, and I've reached it.  I'd just rather not buy games any more, than buy into a culture where I'm endlessly farmed for cash.

Luckily I have a large enough game collection to keep me entertained for the next decade, so I can be satisfied with that.

I feel the exact same way. Especially with the large enough game collection to keep me entertained bit. SO true. It really wouldn't bug me if video games were never being made again.

God of War Ascension for 20 dollars off of the initial price. Installed it and tried the multiplayer and it was garbage as expected. I mainly play those games for the single player anyway. I'll get to the single player when I knock out my backlog a bit.

Haha funny you mention that, that's the exact point where I ended up quitting the game and starting all over because I realized I couldn't win, too weak and I couldn't leave the area (Lunatic Pandora right?) and get better which basically means game over. I'm still unhappy about it too. I remembered I did nothing but spam the gf throughout the entire game because I didn't bother trying to learn the junction system and I just knew it was going to catch up with me at some point and it did unfortunately. You died 5 times? I'm pretty sure I died over 20 times before I realized there's no chance which sucks because I was enjoying the game a lot up until that point.LittleMac19

Wow, thats EXACTLY what I would do. Just used GFs and then when I got to Adel it was game over. Couldn't leave to draw better magic, the monsters in lunatic pandora were too low level for some strange reason, so you couldn't level off of them or draw anything amazing from what I remember. By the way, why ARE the enemies in that area level 1?
