Livin' the Surreal Life Tuesday September 27, 2005 5:00PM PT Caprice Caprice When talk turns to reality TV stalwarts, you're sure to hear the same few names. Survivor, The Amazing Race, and American Idol are proof that reality shows with buzz can avoid rapid burnout. But one other show keeps increasing in buzz, even as it descends into the depths of ephemeral celebrity. You know we're talking about the unreal success of The Surreal Life. Searches on the show are up 18% over the last week, and although it's not a smash on par with the big three, it's carved out a niche on VH1. Demographics show that primarily 30- to 44-year-olds are searching on this guilty pleasure, split equally among men and women. As the fifth season winds down, the housemates with the biggest buzz are a pair of models: off-the-rails supermodel Janice Dickinson and vapid lingerie entrepreneur Caprice. We're not sure if the current season will spawn spinoffs like Strange Love or My Fair Brady, but don't be shocked if "Balki Behaving Badly" ends up on VH1's celebreality slate. In the meantime, the network has ordered up a sixth season of the C-list spectacular. Which housemate from the recently announced cast is tops in search? Here they are in order of popularity... 1. Steve Harwell -- Smash Mouth frontman might be wishing he was "Walking on the Sun" instead of stuck in the Surreal house. 7. Sherman Helmsley -- George Jefferson gets no love from searchers. Hopefully, the show can help him 'move on up' in popularity.
