Batman the Dark Knight Review

Wow. Just wow. And I thought Batman Begins was excellent. This... this piece of art... its PHENOMENAL!! From the scale, to the acting, the atmosphere, the music, the action, it's all art. I have not experienced this level of greatness in the cinema for a long time. This film is the darkest Batman, as well as one of the darkest, violent and gripping films, ever made.

I'll start off with the actors. Christian Bale has done a tremendous job as our beloved Caped Crusader, who has a flawed personality that hangs on the balance between righteous and crazy. His perception of justice causes an emotional and personal shift, whether he is a rich guy who fights crime in a suit or just a regular guy who is sick of all the injustice in Gotham City and decides to give the psychopaths a dose of their own medicine. Because of this, and Bale's tremendous acting, the Bruce Wayne character is justified. If there was an excellent Batman, this is the real deal. The theme of righteousness and insanity is played well with his character here.

But of course, the real star of the show is the late and great Heath Ledger, who steals almost every scene he's in as the villainous Joker (Nicholson, step aside). This Joker is not like the other renditions; he is the best. Downright evil, corrupt, insane, psychotic, terrifying. In every sense of those aforementioned words. More scary than funny, he shows audiences the Joker is undoubtedly Batman's most nefarious foe and his perfect nemesis, challenging him all the way. With a cynical smile, he proclaims in a scene where Batman is a freak to the public, like the Joker himself. This also explains the balance of righteousness that Bruce Wayne is going through. The Joker is downright evil, and Ledger makes this performance legendary. I agree with the critics, sign me up for the petition where he deserves a posthumous Oscar win.

The rest of the cast is excellent and star-studded. Aaron Eckhart does his Harvey Dent/Two-Face character justice, with a strong sense of righteousness/betrayal/twistedness up his sleeve, as well as Bruce Wayne's rival in love. His acting is strong here. Maggie Gyllenhaal is a great replacement for Katie Holmes as Wayne's love interest Rachel Dawes, as she shows more sensitive and caring side towards Bruce, other than Holmes' nearly flat performance. Michael Caine as Bruce Wayne's loyal butler Alfred delivers, as well as Morgan Freeman as the CEO of Wayne Enterprises. Gary Oldman does an excellent portrayal of Lt. James Gordon, who aids Batman in his quest for justice. And a special mention goes to Eric Roberts as a crime lord, who surprisingly does a great acting job. The rest of the cast can take a bow, they can be proud of their being in this film.

The cinematography is possibly the most sublime scenes ever chosen. Gotham and Hong Kong are wide, and yet, there is this dark aura of crime and corruption all around them. It really blends in well with the film, giving it a distinct and unique look. Quite simply, this is the best Gotham city in any Batman rendition. Wally Pfister has done an excellent job.

To accompany the atmosphere is the tremendous music score by movie music maestros, James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer. With talents like these, the score is unforgettable. It is tension-building at times, and throbbing and glorious yet dark/moody during others. It deserves an Oscar.

In short, it's a masterpiece. One that will knock you out of your seat. It is the best Batman film ever, the best superhero film ever and the best film of 2008 thus far. If there ever was a possibility of a summer film winning Best Picture at the Oscars (like Titanic and Lord Of The Rings), this will join their ranks. It is rightfully deserved. Do yourselves a favor and see this piece of art. Repeated viewings highly recommended

Tom Clancy's EndWar E3 2008 Stage Show Demo

This looks like one of the most promising game from Ubisoft on the 360 this year! Also hears a little info about the game

On first glance, EndWar looks like a typical real-time strategy game. You control sets of units on a 3D battlefield, and they pound the heck out of the enemy. However, the control scheme for EndWar is revolutionary. While creative director Michael de Plater played the game using an Xbox 360 controller, he also used a wide range of voice commands for many tasks. In rapid fire, he barked out such orders as, "Calling all gunships, create group," or "White Team, attack Hostile 1." Switching the camera to a group is as simple as calling out the group and saying "camera" afterward. Calling in reinforcements, which are purchased using points that you gain from killing enemies, is as simple as saying "reinforce" and the type of unit you want. (There is absolutely no base building or resource gathering in this game because the designers want to keep it as believable as possible. Thus, reinforcements and replacements are delivered to the battlefield via air transport.)

The flexibility of this system became quickly evident: You can quickly and simply give orders to units that aren't even on the screen. That makes command and control of the battle a lot easier than ever. Information on all your units is displayed at the bottom of the screen, so it's easy to keep track of the units and their designations. Even better, units are pretty good about carrying orders out in a smart manner. For example, infantry know how to use cover while maneuvering and fighting, so you'll see squads of men hug walls, as well as the sides of cars, in combat.

The goal of the battle is to seize strategic points on a map. These are actually radar towers and networking nodes for the missile defense shield that's the cause of the conflict. The premise behind EndWar is that the threat of nuclear war has kept the peace between the major powers for almost 100 years. War erupts after a nuclear missile shield is established because the threat of annihilation is no longer there.

If you seize a strategic point, you can upgrade it in a number of ways that give you special abilities, such as the ability to call in air strikes or artillery. Units themselves can also be upgraded dozens of ways. While there are only seven basic unit classes in the game, there are more than 150 potential upgrades. The example given involves heavy infantry, which have antitank and antiaircraft capabilities. If a unit gains experience and is promoted, you have a choice of upgrades, such as adding combat engineers that can lay mines or special counterengineers that can remove enemy obstacles.

US PS3 video rentals due in 'summer,' Life with PlayStation revealed

Heres the article done by gamespot:

This morning in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai spoke at a press conference held as part of a presentation titled "Sony's Sony Group Corporate Strategy Update FY2008-FY2010." The update outlined a corporate-wide initiative to "roll out video services across key Sony products" by the end of Sony's 2010 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2011.

Luckily for gamers, Sony considers the PlayStation 3 to be especially key; the company announced that its video offensive is "starting with the summer 2008 launch on the PlayStation Network." According to most calendars, the first day of the northern hemisphere's warmest season begins on the summer solstice (June 20) and ends on the Autumnal equinox (September 20).

According to a Dengeki Online report filed from the conference, Hirai showed a slide that demonstrated a high-definition download of the film Ghost Rider for $5.99. Though the screen said "Purchase Confirmation," a subsequent slide confirmed that PlayStation Network films would only be rentals, as they are on Xbox Live Marketplace. (HD XBLM film rentals cost $5.99, and SD rentals cos $3.99.) The Dengeki report said that the PlayStation Network would also offer SD video, but did not say if television shows would be available. Hirai promised more details at next month's E3 Media & Business Summit.

Though it was short on specifics, Sony was long on optimism about the PS3's video service. "In the Game segment, the two key drivers of new growth are non-game content and services in tandem with enhanced network capability," the company said in a statement. The company also said that in the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2009, it plans to "continue PS3 cost reduction initiatives," "accelerate PS3 sales through upcoming key franchise software titles, " and "continue to expand the PS3 customer base through the strength of Blu-ray Disc." Earlier this year, Blu-ray emerged victorious in the next-generation console war after Toshiba abruptly ceased HD DVD support.

As a result of the aforementioned efforts, Sony Computer Entertainment now reasserted its prediction that it will turn a profit for the current fiscal year. Hirai also reportedly told the conference that during the second half of Sony's previous fiscal year, which ended March 31, PS3 sales were up 200 percent, with PSP sales up 146 percent.

In addition to the video services and the financial details, Hirai's presentation also included the first details about a totally unexpected--but very familiar-looking--service, "Life with PlayStation." Outlined in a slide show snapped by Dengeki, the service looks like a more complex version of the Wii's news service, which lets users take a satellite's-eye view to literally spin the globe and peruse international news by clicking on dozens of cities. (Washington, DC was used as an example.) However, unlike Wii News, Life will PlayStation will also apparently have more general information about major cities, including photos of landmarks.

Check out GameSpot's coverage of Sony's E3 press conference at 11:30am on July 15 for the full US unveiling of the PlayStation Network video store and Life with PlayStation service.

Sony XEL-1

just saw it on tv a few days a ago. Yup, the Sony XEL-1. It's world thinnest tv with only 3 mm, screen size is 11 inch and full HD, and the tv is about $2499.99 u.s. dollars and it's only avaiable in U.S. and Japan a bit pricy though...

Novint Falcon

All right, so I saw a preview of the Novint Falcon on both GameSpot and IGN and ended up pre-ordering one. Which might or might not have been a good decision heh. So now it's here .... number 2057 of 5000 limited edition Falcon's.Here's a preview done by CNET. I've played the Falcon now for around 5 hours, all the games they have for it and the HL2 mod. The Falcon is built really well out of nice materials, it's really solid as far as computer accessories go. It works great n the tutorial, but once it gets into the games its performance is severely lacking. In HL2 the movement is really jerky, same with most of the mini-games that come with it. All in all, it's pretty cool but also pointless at this time with the games in such shoddy working condition.

Giving Novint the benefit of the doubt, I think the games will improve, also i think this is a HUGE step into The 8th Generation of Gaming and they have a great idea going! :P
