COD is popular because it's fun and revolutionized the FPS genre. Plus they usually have good campaigns to go along with their great online, even if the MW ones are too short, the COD games still have exciting campaigns.

Which is more than I can say for most shooters.

ShadowMoses900

Part of the revolution was bringing a PC quality (to a point, I can already hear people nitpicking) competitive shooter to consoles. The fun is in the responsive guns and movement, along with the rewarding unlock system. People spend hours on CoD multiplayer, Im sure there are very very few people who play the CoD campaigns through more than once.

Very few shooters today are worth $60 for their campaign.

(Note: This is a parody from the hilarious Mega64, but its basically gamers who love Call of Duty and Madden and Halo and Xbox 360, the frat boys of gaming).

Best Puzzle game:

Halo Combat Evolved: Anniversary

Thats it, from now on Halo is a puzzle game.

Eurogamer just put an article up that essentially sums up the main thing I think that makes CoD so popular.

"We think 60 frames is super essential - I'm pretty convinced Call of Duty is as popular as it is because of how fluid it can feel

- You can feel the difference"

LINK

There is a commentry from BF3 and BlOps2 devs about their approach to the frames per second debate.

But this is why I think people can sink so much time into CoD on consoles. Its the feel and fluidity of the entire game. You used to have to play on a high end PC to get that kind of multiplayer experience, but CoD hit a sweet spot for a quality experience on consoles.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a BF man. Although there is lots to be said for what CoD accomplishes with its multiplayer experience, and I think the fluididity of its console exprirence is as much to do with that as the game design.

Its a good game but disapointing when you compare to the original shooters.

The game is optimised well, and runs well on most cards im my experience.

The future of turn based RPG battles. Its a great mix of RPG, turn based strategy and match colours puzzle games. If only another developer would take this idea and add to it. Possibly my favourite DS game.

Xbox live is a fantastic tool for multiplayer.

To the point where I favour the inferior Xbox version to getting it on PC, for the simplicity if palying with friends online.

Its a preference, I've never used PSN, but XBL is very slick and makes playing online with friends more fun.

In Dave's case he went to another extreme. He quit drugs and alcohol, now he fills that void with religion and politics.

The later being far more dangerous.

Free to play isnt bad. There are good F2P games.

Greedy pricing and poor choices in the game structure are what hurt most F2P games.

The thing about F2P is you don't get a singleplayer experience most of the time.

Other devs have said it is considerably more powerful than the 360.

Pick what quote you want, either way its still up the air.
