Games Highlight I - 360 Goes Ghostbusting

Ghostbusters (X360)

In January of 2007 videos that shown a Ghostbusters game in action for the Xbox 360 surfaced on the internet. Though the tech demos were legitimate according to developer ZootFly, the game faced trouble with copyright issues. In order to avoid possible lawsuits, ZootFly will be instead developing a similar game named TimeO based on their Ghostbusters prototype.

Coincidentally, Sony was already looking for a developer of their own to create a Ghostbusters game. Vivendi Universal stepped up to the plate, with developer Terminal Reality at their side. In an interview on a TV show, Ghostbusters creator Dan Aykroyd confirmed that the game is essentially "Ghostbusters III", although fans hope the game will renew interest in a movie (it is also worth noting that the famous "Ghostbusters Go to Hell" plotline often associated with a third movie is not being used for the game, and that Aykroyd previously announced the possibility of a computer-generated film based on that script).

In November 2007, Game Informer magazine revealed its December cover, which sported the Ghostbusters logo, announcing a "world exclusive premiere" of the game. The first actual gameplay video (taken from the Xbox 360 build) was released on G4TV, featuring a level where the player (partnered with Egon Spengler and Ray Stantz) chases Slimer around the Sedgwick Hotel. Other iconic characters who have been confirmed to appear in the game in the magazine are the library ghost from the first film, and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

The game is to be released Autumn 2008.

3 Games Worth Mentioning

Alone In The Dark 5Dynasty Warriors 6Avatar: The Legend Of Aang - The Burning Earth

OK, so here is why I have decided to highlight these games in particular:

  • Alone In The Dark 5 (Near Death Investigation) : Having never played any Alone In The Dark game in the past, though unfortunately I have seen the Uwe Boll abortion, I think this looks pretty stellar. I'm a fan of third-person survival horrors (by which I mean Resident Evil) and have been looking forward to this for almost a year, so I hope it works out.
  • Predicted Score: 6.0 (Much like Kane & Lynch, I see the reviewers finding nitpicky flaws)
  • Dynasty Warriors 6 : I've played a few Dynasty Warriors games (though I steered clear of Dynasty Warriors: Gundam and Samurai Warriors, though I would appreciate Warriors Orochi), I think this one is started to look like it will slightly shy away from the mundane and tired DW formula, minute progress is better than none.
  • Predicted Score: 6.0 Typical Dynasty Warriors. Won't score high, and won't score low (probably)
  • Avatar: The Legend of Aang: The Burning Earth : Why on Earth have I mentioned this God-awful train wreck of a game? One of those reasons is for the God-awful achievements, all of which could be obtained in 2 minutes or less gametime. The second is it has NO right on the 360. Maybe on Wii, because the prequel is on that platform, but not on any other next gen console. Buy this game if your an achievement whore or diehard Avatar fan. Otherwise, steer clear.
  • Predicted Score: 1.5 It won't score this, but I really hope it does.

10 Worst Video Game Antagonists

Every videogame has a protagoniast (good guy) and an antagonist (bad guy), most of the time they are both cool and dignified. Sometimes the goodie is annoying and the baddie is just stupid. Here is a countdown of the latter, the Worst Video Game Antagonists: (The numbers next to the names refer to: Stupidity - Annoyance - Incompetance, respectively)

  • 10. Boss Cass (Ty The Tasmanian Tiger) 5 - 7 - 6
  • 9. Wart (Super Mario Bros. 2) 8 - 6 - 7
  • 8. The Prophet of Truth (Halo 2 and 3) 2 - 10 - 4
  • 7. Tokai Kawaji (Red Steel) 5 - 7 - 7
  • 6. Dr. Robotnik/Eggman (Sonic Series) 2 - 9 - 9
  • 5. Ripto (Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer) 8 - 8 - 8
  • 4. Giant Smith (The Matrix: Path of Neo) 10 - 5 - 7
  • 3. The Baron (Amped 3) 8 - 9 - 10
  • 2. Dr. Neo Cortex (Crash Bandicoot Series) 8 -10 - 10
  • 1. Graven (Conan) 7 - 11 - 10

Endless Ocean = Fantastic!

Now, I bought Endless Ocean on Wii today (11-11-2007 - Armistice Day) and so far I have only poured a couple of hours into it, yet I have to say the game is fantastic! Such a huge game area, such freedom, so many things to collect and upgrade and so many friends to make, so many fish to research, so many penguins to stroke, so many dolphins to train. A stellar Wii game which i shall submit a rating for soon (I may even write a review). So for the time being I am going to continue playing the game and deciding what score I should give it (though I think it deserves at least a 8.5). The game only came out 2 days ago (in Europe), and my deepest apologies to the Americans, who have to wait till January 2008 before they can purchase the absolute diamond.

Endless Ocean (Forever Blue)

LucasArts Marathon

Over the coming week I intend to replay Secret of Monkey Island (second time), Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (second time), Curse of Monkey Island (thirteenth time), Escape From Monkey Island (third time) and Grim Fandango (forty-seventh time) all for PC (though I played EMI through first time on the PS2).

See you in a week Xbox and Wii!

It Finally Happened...

I have awardedmy 4th (3rd if you consider the VC and 64 versions of Ocarina of Time as one game) 10/10. Now beacuase of the new system, a 10 is no longer considered "perfect", instead it is now "prime", but what is this game? It's the SECOND 360 title I have awarded a 10 (the first being Oblivion), it's The Orange Box. Individually I would give the games:

  • Half-Life 2: 9.5
  • Portal: 8.5
  • Team Fortress 2: 8.5

With an average score of 8.8 (so 9.0 by the new system), you can't forget that they put all this in one package, so I gave it .5 for the value, and the other .5 from the inclusion of both Half-Life 2 expansions.

Bravo to The Orange Box. 5 Games, 99 Achievements and many hours of fun!

Resident Evil Antagonists?

If your a Resi buff, please help me fill in the gaps:

Main Antagonist of:

  • Resident Evil - Albert Wesker
  • Resident Evil 2 - ?
  • Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - Nemesis
  • Resident Evil 4 - Osmund Saddler

!Necesito Mario!

  • Necesito, necesito, necesito uno de los juegos siguientes añadir a mi colección:
  • I need, I need, I need one of the following games to add to my collection:

Super Paper MarioMario Party 8Super Mario Galaxy

  • At current, I have no Mario games on Wii (excluding Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Brothers 2 and Super Mario World, I hope to download Super Mario 64 soon, and I hope Super Mario Brothers 3 appears on the Virtual Console soon).
  • Supongo la única razón yo conseguí un Wii fue para la Consola Virtual, aunque poseyendo que un videojuego de Mario me haría se siente más afiliado con Nintendo.
  • I suppose the only reason I got a Wii was for the Virtual Console, though owning a Mario videogame would make me feel more affiliated with Nintendo.
  • Perdóneme, mi español horroriza, acabo de tratar de experimentar con mis idiomas diferentes.
  • Pardon me, my Spanish is appalling, I am just trying to experiment with my different languages.

I've Discovered Resident Evil!

I know what your thinking, the Resident Evil series has been out forever, and I've only just got into it. Well, a few weeks ago I got Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (GC) to play on my Wii, and recently I bought Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (Wii) and I am engrossed in them both (though since both play very differently and are set in completely different environments and feature different protagonists, though share the same basic story, I find it hard to understand which is the kind of gameplay the people got hyped about). Resi 3 plays (and looks) an awful lot like Grim Fandango (PC) and I find it very addictive, though the game does freak me out, as there's just you, a woman (nothing wrong with that) in the midst of a seemingly empty, destroyed city. Individual parts freak me out as there are puzzles and gunfights, as well as (this is the worst part for me), constant attacks from the Nemesis. Resi 4 on the other hand, is more action packed, and very reminiscent of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre setting (except in Spain) and (I haven't got far enough into either stories to figure out how the virus got there) there is a distinct difference in the enemies, though zombies, the ones in 4 seem alot more human-like.

Also recently I bought Resident Evil: Apocalypse in a DVD 3-set (along with The Punisher and Hellboy) and am currently in the process of watching it (I'll update my opinions afterwards) and after watching the the beginning, the summary of the original Resident Evil film, I realised that I have seen that too. I hope to see Resident Evil: Extinction in the cinemas soon.

Well, here is the first (of probably many) Resident Evil blogs.

Stay classy GameSpot :)
