Don't buy the 290 unless it has an aftermarket cooler. Thing runs way too hot with the stock fan.

What about the Arctic Accelero Xtreme III, I should think that it would suffice? Though I don't think I would like to void the warranty. But that is off topic, I would like to know if there is any retailer that sells a BF4 edition of the R9 290.

Why don't you get the Sapphire R9 290 BF4 edition? Or you can get the Sapphire r9 290 for only 395$ with BF4 for free (what I ordered).

I'm not too keen on Sapphire, plus they only have the BF4 edition for the R9 290X. I'm beginning to think that you can't get a BF4 edition of the R9 290.

You missed out on a lot of deals this past weekend sadly.

No, not necessarily. Newegg has Cyber Week deals and man do they look nice. Also good on you for getting an R9 290. Here's the link. Cheers!

Hi, I am going to start to buy all of the components that I will use for my new gaming PC build. I have decided on a R9 290 from MSI and I would like to get the BF4 edition though I am unable to find any place that sells it (seriously). All i can find is the R9 290X BF4 which is quite annoying. I just was wondering why I can't find a R9 290 with BF4. I would greatly appreciate it if you were to point me to a place that sells it. I would also like your opinion on the R9 290 and what you think of the release date which was so close to the R9 290X. Cheers!

Hi, I've already asked this and I got very minimal feedback so I would like to try this again. I've had my HP Pavilion dv6 for quite sometime now and now that the next gen games have come out and still are, I would like to obviously upgrade to a better gaming experience. The only next gen game I have is CoD: Ghosts (Please don't criticise me) an the frames when I was trying to load the next level and play the audio and video was horrible (at the most a frame every one or two seconds). This is why I really want a new gaming PC and I would like some help in doing so. Just to be clear I have $2000-500 to spend so I do hope for a pretty powerful machine that'll get me through this years and next years games with ease. I would like to have the most aerated and future-proof PC as possible and the keyboard, mouse, mouse pad etc. included. These are the components that I have my eyes set on at the moment:

Intel's i7 4770K CPU,

Coolermaster's Storm Stryker and

MSI's Radeon R9 290.

With the GPU I only intend to use one monitor on 1080p with everything maxed. Also with the RAM I have no clue about except for having at least 8GBs for future-proofing. The PSU, optic drive, HDD and SSD, sound card and motherboard I have absolutely no idea about what is best for my gaming expectations. I hope I'm not expecting too much from $2000 and thank you so very much if you help :).

Cheers!

LOL, when I was reading that article I was so confused. After reading all of it and then coming back here I almost pissed myself laughing (cause PC is and always will be better than any console). I mean like we don't even need to by a whole new PC every 2 or 3 years, we can just replace certain component that has reached it's due date and even that outlasts a whole generation of consoles. I will always feel superior to people who game on consoles and I can do so freely as I am on a PC and Mac Discussion forum so no console fans will give :D.

I <3 PC.

For my PC build I am going to use the i7 4770K. It's $350 and atm I recon the second best CPU around. Also I think you should be fine with your current GPU but just in case next years games are ridiculously fancy you might want to look at going CrossFire with your 6850. Btw you should definitely look at at least 8GB of RAM, if you want to be smart go for 16GBs/ 32GBs and you'll be set for a long time to come.

i thought i was pretty clear when i said "for Nvidia" that i was only considering nvdia GPUs.... i guess not.

i would never buy an AMD GPU or CPU for that matter. their drivers are garbage, and i prefer nvidia.

IK you said for Nvidia GPUs only but I tell you know that your not looking at a huge part of the GPUs available that are decent. I preferred Nvidia too but now that I opened my eyes and understood that there were better cards out there that outperform them and are cheaper or a little over premium. I'm just saying that you should take a look at every possible card that is in your price range and performance needs.

I would have to disagree with you there. I would definitely choose the R9 290 over the 280X any day. Even if it is $100 more (for MSI's that is).

The R9 290 will for sure be the better value once they release 3rd party versions with better coolers (280x is at the very worse equal in value than the 290 given the price, R9 290s with 3rd party coolers that can overclock to 1050-1100 will for sure smoke the 280x in the value department once they finally come out).

True but even at the moment I would say the 290 trumps the 280X.
