Germany has been an occupied country since the end of WW2.

They aren't quite as independent as you may think.

They weren't trying to force themselves into the country.

Until they were.

Lying from a conservative, what a surprise!

So you are calling fake news on the original story?

There was never any attempt to cross the border?

@Damedius: I don't mind immigrants and competing with them. That's the free market. But not everyone is comfortable to allow a foreign doctor, engineer, etc etc come and practice without proving their abilities here in this country first. I don't mind giving these migrants a fast track, there is no need to force them to repeat their education from scratch. A certification course for these professionals would be a good idea.

That's the difference between a lowly peon like me and a corporation. These corporations get protections from free market competition through the government whereas us peons are left to fight over scraps. Bunch of bastard politicians, should all be run over.

Who does an increase in available labor benefit? A corporation or a "peon" like yourself as you say.

Does the law of supply and demand not apply to labor?

Screw the GOP, they don't deserve a seat at the table right now.

Good to know you have a problem with democracy.

Diversity is our strength, comrade.

Now screw all those people who have ideas different from our own.

Reap what you sow.

Does this mean that diversity is not our strength?

@Damedius: the left dominates those institutions?? Alot of the owners and investors of universities, while they aren't the typical batshit crazy right wing nut job trumpers, are definitely conservatives when it comes to finances and funding. Recognizing foreign credentials isn't a smart idea because it would cause havoc in the labor market and drop the value of those native professionals. But no reason to stop these people from coming to the country in the first place like OP suggests. These immigrants will be allowed to upgrade/side grade/refresh their credentials to our standards and be able to practice their jobs here

So you are okay with immigrants coming as long as they do the jobs you don't want to do?

What you don't want is immigrants than can compete you.

Right wing Canadians are almost as batshit insane as their American counterparts. I don't care where someone comes from, so long as they are contributing to society by paying their taxes and doing their best to build a life for themselves and their families.

And the funny thing is, most immigrants coming to Canada have post-secondary education and left lucrative jobs in their home country, only to have to work entry level minimum wage jobs here. The only reason they can't get work in their fields is because the Canadian university system doesn't recognize out-of-country degrees and requires them pay a fee to have their education "validated" enough that a prospective employer can recognize their value as an employee.

When you leave a country rife with political corruption, and are unable to take anything besides your family and the clothes on your back (usually at the cost of hundreds or thousands of dollars to smuggle the family out), it's kind of difficult to come up with the tens of thousands usually required to get that validation.

definitely agreed. I've met some immigrants who are just really smart, they are smart enough to be working in top fields, but they aren't because of the laws. The right wingers are definitely bat shit crazy and have no idea what the hell they are talking about. The Canadians are doing the right thing by trying to increase their population and so is Trudeau. The only reason the US gets away with so much highway robbery is because Canadas population is so small and weak. Give Canada a population of 100 million and its not as easy to bully them when some turd like trump comes around.

Those laws are to protect Canadian institutions like Canadian Universities.

It's not a right wing conspiracy. The left dominates those institutions. It's about preserving their cash cow. If they recognized more institutions outside of Canada it would greatly reduce the number of foreign students they receive.

You guys seem to at least feign concern for the environment. Are you willing to take the prescribed medicine though?

The plan is to make the majority of the worlds population equally poor to reduce consumption. So are you ready to watch your standard of living drop to save the world?

The alternative is a bit draconian.

If they have the same writers that they used for Mass Effect Andromeda then this could easily be the last Bioware game.

We'll get to find out if Bioware wants to makes video games or martyr themselves on the altar of progressivism.
