Dragon Age:
*The whole game is completely not linear, even the beginning has 6 very different options.
*There are plenty of settlements (though you may end up destroying some based on your choices)
*There are loads of party members to choose from. You can even tell people to leave your party and/or kill them off if you wanted to.
*There isn't that much moving to do which doesn't have something interesting to see on the way
*The whole game system is not a clone of FFX. It is similar to KotOR though.
*OK you can't flee battles in Dragon Age either, but it isn't like there is an overabundance of them.
*Again, the party is healed in DA as well. Encounters are balanced towards this, though.
*Whole party death = game over
*You need to use a lot of strategy to win battles in DA. Endlessly attacking is a good way to get game over.
*I can't be bothered to carry on as I would rather play Dragon Age :)
tl;dr - sounds like they made FFXIII casual-friendly, buy Dragon Age instead.
