Will it be a AAA or will it flop? Why?

xboxrulze

I'm sorry if this comes off as me coming down on you, but this kind of reasoning is what's wrong with these forums (and many others). Why does it have to sink or swim? Why must everything either be the best thing ever or the worst thing ever???

I see Lost Odyssey as being a very good game but it won't sell anywhere near FF or KH numbers or up with most 360 hits. It may doo 300k lifetime in NA, but I'd be surprised if it does more. But that doesn't mean its a flop. As for review scores, who knows? Some will love it for its old school sensibilities and others will rip it apart because of the same reasons. Some will rip it for not being FF or maybe even for being on a non-Sony system. Others will say that it perfectly fills a missing piece in the 360 library. Different strokes.

But the choice between thumbs up or thumbs down limits our perspective too much. There's a large gray area of gaming that sure is a whole lot of fun.

Yes, All Pro is great football. With still two more years/iterations left, maybe, just maybe, the NFL will open things up again like ALMOST ALL OF THE OTHER SPORTS do. Madden fans still deserve their licensed Madden. I'm not gonna blame them for what the NFL did (and what EA solicited for years). But 2K fans truly deserve a licensed 2K football game as well.

Checking... Checking... ok this thread at least isn't labeled as an experiment.

Uberbadassmufuh

For the record, I laughed at that.

And what can we conclude from the results ...?

rragnaar

You like wasting people's time.

Nah, not at all. If anything, hopefully it will help people to realize the importance of reading the full post before responding. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Mass Effect is a great game that has been critically lauded for many things. It has sold VERY well for a new IP that is an RPG, and many gamers are enjoying it.

That being said, the game is still making headlines because of a tiny aspect of it that, ultimately, meant little-to-nothing in the scope, quality or enjoyment of the game. That being the love scene (I refuse to call it a sex scene for reasons that should be obvious to anyone that has seen it) that happens at almost the end of the game. I understand that the game makers were trying to add a level of sophistication to the game in doing it. I do understand that. But even they recognized the limits of what they should do by only showing butts (I'm still missing the whole side boob moment; maybe I was distracted by booty).

That being said, why even go that far? All it has done is brought out people that have exaggerated what is in the game and those in the know are not getting fair and balanced coverage. Did we honestly think they would? These media outlets don't have time to play a 30+ hour game and don't have time to search for sources that HAVE. Its easier for them to pull out the usual suspects that fall back on generalizations instead of hands-on research.

Personally, I wish that Bioware would've just left out the partial nudity and maybe even the whole love scene. It could've been implied and the same plot and story elements would've still worked. For the bad press that the game has gotten (particularly recently), it just wasn't worth it to me. It didn't add enough positive elements to the game to justify the negative press.

Well ... it worked. :P

For the record, I still have a launch 360 and have had no problems, so I'm someone that the gamble has benefited. :D

Yes, MGS4 will be the PS3's Halo. Well, let me explain what I mean.

When Halo was released for the Xbox, the system was already far behind the PS2. The PS2 was getting AAA title after AAA title that holiday and it seemingly could not be stopped. But along came Halo and it put the Xbox on the map. The game was highly regarded by critics and was a showpiece for what the system could do. It was also a hit that sold HUGE numbers.

But ........... in the end the success of Halo did little to get people to buy the console in numbers anywhere close to the PS2. Ultimately the PS2 outsold the Xbox by more than 5 to 1. So the thread title is to note that the PS3 will have a bonifide hit with MGS4, but it will not be THE title to push sales past the Wii or 360. It'll simply be a great, high selling title on a console that failed to capture the lead.

To be completely honest, though, even though everything I stated above is how I feel, this thread is really an experiment to see how many people actually read just the thread title and comment or actually read the first post. I already have a bad feeling about this ...

S0lidSnake

Your post is nothing but an experiment like u mentioned. Everything you mentioned is what all of us already know. I really dont understand the point of this really pointless thread. We all know one game (MGS4 in this case) by itself cant win Sony the console war. uh forget it.

Isn't it interesting, though, how many didn't respond to the crux of my post (the PS3 will have a bonifide hit with MGS4, but it will not be THE title to push sales past the Wii or 360. It'll simply be a great, high selling title on a console that failed to capture the lead) but instead to either the thread title or my initial statements?

Yes, it was an experiment. And, as the scientific method demands, I had a hypothesis that people would respond to the thread title instead of my ultimate point. And what can we conclude from the results ...?

[QUOTE="fenwickhotmail"]q4 2010 would be about rightzeeloph
i actually think q4 2011 or q1 2012

Yeah, I think most of you are crazy. Holiday 2012 is the EARLIEST I think it would happen.

Things have changed with this gen. Next gen gaming has been VERY expensive for devs and consumers. And while technology will always improve, devs haven't come close to tapping this gen and nailing multi-core processing. Plus MS wants to make a profit and even they have stated that the REAL profits don't come until your console hits $199 or lower. They would like to be at that price for probably a good 3 years before starting this whole expensive process over again.

We can't always look at the past as how things will continue in the future. Trust me, this gen will be a game changer. The rules are no longer.
