@livedreamplay: Of course I read the whole thing, but like the ABC article, most of the article was about how the votes are tallied, i.e. not relevant to this discussion. The topic is, are the awards influenced by anything other than the merits of the actual film, and the article YOU gave me says they are! That article has completely damaged your entire argument, so it's not surprising you are backing out now.
@livedreamplay: Thank you for posting the articles. The ABC article has nothing to do with the topic at hand as it is about how votes are scored and tallied, not about whether or not those votes have been unduly influenced. The Telegraph article pushes back on the idea of outright bribes, but fails to mention the excessive amount of marketing done in order to influence votes. The Economist article actually makes the case for my position:
"Mr Ellis-Unwin compares it to running for a political office, with up to $10m spent on wooing voters. (The high cost of campaigning for voters’ attention means smaller films are at a disadvantage.)"
Are you still going to fall back on your "biased publication" argument even though it's a source you chose yourself, or are you finally going to admit that money wins Oscars, not the quality of films?

Did you not look at any of the sources quoted in the video or the New York Times article I linked to? Are you honestly telling me that I should trust your "research" over the NYT? Your willful ignorance on this topic is shameful, and at the very least, you should be providing sources backing your position instead of countering my sources with your own uninformed opinion and anecdotal experience. Just sad.

It's no secret that money and campaigning have had a crucial role in getting an Oscar award ever since this award ceremony started. Don't believe me? Feel free to research this yourself. @livedreamplay: Let's be clear here: my comment is primarily directed at the farce that is the entire Academy Awards. Regardless of the actual merits of the hair and makeup in Suicide Squad (I personally didn't think it was anything special), are you seriously arguing that marketing and bribes had nothing to do with this award, given that the Academy Awards is notorious for rewarding films for just that?
Does anyone even take the Oscars seriously anymore? The only real question here is, how much did DC have to bribe the judges to get them to award this steaming turd?
