And yet that is exactly what is NOT happening here...Microsoft is a very large company that carries a significant amount of influence. I will agree that there are some failings in the patent system, but not all the ones that you think there are. (Probably the biggest problem is the time period for patents on electronics and computer programs - 18 years is too long.)

The rational for banning drugs (detriment to society) and the reasons for banning the xbox slim (patent infringement) are totally different. Thanks for artificially inserting your drug habits into a completely irrelevant topic.
Yes, I think the fact that it is illegal is enough reason to ban it if that is what Motorola really wanted, but it would probably be better for everyone involved to just have Microsoft pay royalties to Motorola for every xbox slim ever sold and continue selling them.
There seems to be an inordinate amount of people here who have no idea how patent law works or why it exists. Whether or not you like the xbox, patent infringement is illegal, and rightly so.
I don't think being "sold out" of Xbox 360s in Japan means much. I mean, I look around in the game stores and there are hundreds of PS3 and Wii games, but there are only 5 Xbox games.
