EA's new and upcoming "The Simpsons Game", which is set to be released in late October to early November has been placed in the Xbox Live Marketplace and is currently available to download as a demo. Below is a short, first impression preview of the demo.
The demo gives you two options in the menu. Start Game and Exit Demo. Simple Enough.
The demo starts with the ever so famous reporter Kent Brockman chasing Bart and Homer Simpson as they prepare to battle Lard Lad - the donut store mascot. After half a minute or so, after the introduction video is over, you're finally playing.
You can control either Bart or Homer. Each character has special abilities or power-ups which are collectible throughout the allocated area. Bart's power-ups/specials include transforming into Bartman, which gives him the ability to glide. Some of Homer's power-ups including eating items located in the allocated area. Some of Homer's special abilities include flying for a short period of time or becoming invincible and strong.
Whoever you are, or whatever you pick up as a power-up, your main objective is to destroy Lard Lad. Lard Lad just wonders around the area you move around in, stomping and using his laser eyes to hurt you. He also gets small Krusty dolls to come and attack you too.
The graphics in The Simpsons Game are not the best, but since it is a cartoon game and you cannot make cartoon game graphics very good, or even very bad, concluding that this category is skipped and gets no rating.
One thing that however that I was disappointed with was the game-play in the game. I found the camera angle of the game was awful. Sometimes it was very hard trying to see where thing were and where your character was! And you can't have a good game without the camera angle being good. Another thing was the demo it self. Although the demo only gave us a taste of one challenge, I certainly do hope that challenges are way funner and better in the actual game itself. I though the Lard Lad challenge was very plain and lame. Destroying the hatches and all of that didn't sparkle any excitement and/or enthusiasm during/after completing the objective. It just seemed like a game created and pointed at the lower aged audience and not the teenage/adult adience that also watch The Simpsons and look forward in purchasing the game.
I honestly though The Simpsons: Hit and Run game was way better than this game as it provided the fun factor and enjoyment every game should have.
Although I have decided to give The Simpsons Game a pretty bad first impression preview, readers do not think I am a Simpsons hater or something a like. I myself am a Simpsons fan in both TV Show and Games, and I was frankly disappointed with this game. First impressions can be wrong sometimes (I hope in this case), but this demo was disappointing.
However, the full game promises to be way funner than what was presented as it:
- >>Contains 16 parody packed episodes.
- >>An original story crafted by the writers of the show.
- >>Be able to explore Springfield and interact with more than 170 characters!
- >>Being able to play Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and even Maggie!
I'll review The Simpsons Game when it comes out and tell you ifi changemy mind.
