"To be fair, it’s commendable that director Hajime Tabata and company were able to salvage and repurpose the misguided mess of Final Fantasy Versus XIII into the competent video game Final Fantasy XV ultimately is."

Do we actually know if Versus XIII was misguided though? I had thought Tabata was brought on because Square finally realized that there was no way that Nomura could head like four different projects at once (I recall he was working on KH3 as well, but swear there were others). Or by "misguided" are you talking about the whole development process and not the originally-planned story/gameplay? Just curious about what you meant.

Also regarding FF15, the real tragedy is that it ALMOST became as moddable as Skyrim. They had already released the character toolkit and were planning on releasing the full toolkit but it was cancelled along with the rest of the DLC. Given how much the modding community has drastically extended Skyrim's life, I wouldn't have been surprised if the same happened with FF15. Could you imagine the sheer potential of what could be done not only with fan mods that take the game's story in the direction they want, but with full on new fan expansions? It's probably the most heartbreaking thing that resulted from the whole DLC cancellation debacle.

@Barighm: The difference here is that Yoshi-P is in charge of FF16. Between being on Square-Enix's board and being credited for saving FF14 (which also turned around Square's finances at the time), he has a LOT of clout in Square. The fact that he can instantly turn around and say how NFTs will never be in FF14 right after the CEO made that stupid NFT New Years message, despite the obvious contradiction, shows that.

@WarGreymon77: Except it wasn't, because the guy was charging people to unlock the full use of the custom firmware for anyone who bought his systems.

@Heazie: It’s not necessarily laziness as it is that they’d rather spend the money and time doing other things. They could spend an hour or more fixing and playtesting the fix, or they could just remove the clip (which is probably as simple as replacing the file with an empty version, which wouldn’t need any coding change) quickly and use that hour to fix other issues or work on features.

@Heazie: It's a valid reason sure, but it's probably simpler and quicker to take out one clip than code it to check if the clips will play over each other.

I honestly don't understand this new logic of "characters should be voiced by someone of their race". This goes against the concept of acting in general (since you're playing someone who you aren't, regardless of who or what they are), and honestly leads to actors being more limited in who they can audition for rather than opening things up. If we keep this logic up, we won't be able to hear people like Phil Lamarr, who's voiced people of various ethnicities like Samurai Jack and Vamp (from MGS4/5) without being offensive.

I understand the undertone is to allow for more POC to be selected for a role, but selecting based on a character's ethnicity isn't going to help that. It will limit things in the long run.

@reaperezekial: Aside from what the others have said, FF14 is a completely different world from FF12. Using FF12 lore (even incorrectly) is flawed because things may not necessarily be the same in FF14.

This is definitely the intentional "push the boundary three steps forward, then walk back one step pretending it is good faith" method that I've seen most AAA companies take. If they had announced the price at $15 from the start there'd be more unhappy people, so they intentionally made it unreasonable then dialed it down to make $15 look better. What a scumbag move.

Not sure if it’s the angle, but I’m not a fan of how huge that chin is compared to the rest of his body.

@robopat: She had freedom of speech (though the actual law for it applies to the government and not private entities), but not freedom from consequences. This was the consequence of her typing up something with which Disney didn't agree. I don't agree with the rationale Disney used, but Disney is well within its rights to do that.

On a separate note, you should probably not make a public statement mocking someone for their usage of English, because it makes others critique your post thoroughly and makes you look hypocritical if you mess up. "This had to of gone" should be "This had to have gone". "Second" is not the subject matter of "the right to free speech" sentence and is thus grammatically incorrect. The aforementioned sentence is also a run-on sentence and should have been separated into two sentences. Based on these errors that I quickly found from one readthrough, I highly suggest you don't tell others to retake elementary English.

To nip any potential argument in the bud about my disagreement on the rationale: Her actual statement was pointing out how ostracizing entire groups of people (even for something like political views,) and making people numb to said groups' plights is the first step towards genocide similar to the holocaust, which is true. However, she worded it awkwardly and I can see how some people interpreted it as her trivializing the holocaust. That carelessness is all on her.
