The 30 Day Game Challenge - Day 27

Day 27 – A Game I've Played That I Just Couldn't Finish Because It's Just So Bad

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

I love shooters...I LOVE THEM, but this game proved to me that I'm incapable of loving them all! From the poor aiming, retarded buddy system, to the horrible storytelling, I eventually lost my patience with this game. Maybe one day I'll build up the tolerance to go back and complete it (gamer's pride) but for right now there are more promising titles that look more deserving of my attention.

Day 26 – The Most Difficult Game I've Played In The Last Five Years

Final Fantasy III

Final Fantasy III

Yet another category with several contenders being the topic of other blogs in this challenge...but this one didn't take me too long to determine. Final Fantasy III in general isn't any more difficult than most in the series, but what makes it one of the most frustrating to play is everything it lacks. Most remakes these days spoil players with save points in dungeons that weren't present in the original...not FFIII. That's right, your only save points in the game is the world map...so, if you die in a dungeon, you get to start all over from the outside! Oh and pheniox downs are rare/limited treasures on this game too, meaning if you haven't learned any or lack the MP to perform revive spells, you have to sparingly use pheniox downs.

Last but the most important factor that makes this game the hardest FF I've played...combine the first two reasons, multiply the first by 3, make every enemy clones of every boss on the game, THEN add a final boss that only becomes fightable if you defeat 4 others immediately prior to facing it AND VALLA...you have the final dungeon! That's right...in the very end of FFIII, you have 3 different dungeons to fight through where every random encounter are mere pallette swaps of other bosses on the game, you then fight what was thought to be the main villian of the game just to get to the 3rd dungeon, and must defeat 4 more bosses just to have a fair fight against the final one...ALL of this with no save points and limited pheniox downs!!! How I got through this? I couldn't even tell you if I tried! All I can say is that it takes skill and patience my friend...lots and lots of skill and patience!

Sorry but there was just no short way to sum up why this game was so efing difficult for me

Day 25 – A Game I Absolutely Love But Would Never Play Again

Devil May Cry 3 / Chaos Legion / Resistance: Retribution

Devil May Cry 3Chaos LegionResistance: Retribution

Ok, so no matter how hard I tried, I could not just choose "A Game" for this and it came down to a 3-way tie. I really enjoyed playing and completing these 3 games but they are just so d@mn difficult that I would NEVER try playing through them again! I would have to be really bored with absoulute nothing to do to even consider it. I now consider them and their game data as trophies as accomplishments made as a gamer.

Day 24 – The Most Played Game Soundtrack

Mega Man X4

Mega Man X4

I know...I know...I'm a couple of days behind! All I can say is that I had a busy weekend, anywho: Not only is this my favorite Mega Man game but I LOVE its soundtrack. My favorite tracks are the Split Mushroom theme, Magma Dragoon theme, Boss theme, Repliforce theme, and X's intro level theme. X4 definately has some of the best music I've heard in one game and I listen to its tracks the most as far as game music goes.

Day 23 – A Game I Could Talk About For Hours

Grand Theft Auto III

Grand Theft Auto III

This was another hard one for me to choose since I've already blogged about many of the top games I could ramble on for hours about. This was technically my first PS2 game (I bought it a few days before Christmas since I pretty much knew that I was getting a PS2). There are so many senior year high school memories associated with this game. I'll never forget how my best friend and I used to tape our rampages on Liberty City and then laugh our @sses off when watching them later. The glitches were the best part! I also remember starting a trend with everyone in my school randomly yelling the "HAUH!!!" pedestrian death cry, LOL!!! Ok, let me stop before this does become a hour or 2 long read...

Day 22 – The Saddest Game I've Ever Played

Mega Man Zero 4 (SPOILERS!!!)

Mega Man Zero 4

It was either between this or Final Fantasy II. I haven't played or owned many games that are generally "sad", but more that certainly have sad parts to them...so my pickings were extremely slim for this category. I ended up choosing Mega Man Zero 4 because its in this game that we subliminally discover that several other main characters have been killed off in the previous installment AND the titular hero seemingly bites the dust too in the very end! Its a some what unceremonious end to a long lived hero in the gaming universe (even though he does kind of come back in the Mega Man ZX series). What also makes this game generally sad is that the secondary antagonist ends up being killed in spite of turning on the primary villain and having a romantic link with someone on the side of good. A very sad ending to a very intriguing (yet very difficult) series of games.

P.S. I would've choose Red Dead Redemption since I spoiled the ending for myself but technically I'm still in process of finishing it :P

Day 21 – A Game I Would Definitely Buy Again if I Lost It Or Got Damaged

WWE Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth

WWE Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth

The last great game of a fallen series (maybe I should have chosen it a couple of days ago now that I think about it). This game not only had a pretty impressive roster but let players pretty much do whatever they wanted with any wrestler of any size. You didn't have any weight restrictions, injuries, or wrestler types to limit what a player could do with their wrestler of choice. I would definately search the ends of the Earth if something happened to my copy. I'll never forget the time that I spent 3 hours recreating my CAW roster after my idiot college roommate saved over them all. Thank God my best friend had a lot of the same CAWs and I saved the majority of the FAQs telling me how to make them.

Day 20 – The Most Disappointing Game I've Purchased In My Gaming Life

Alien 3

Alien 3

What do most people think of when the Aliens film series is mentioned? I'll tell you...big scary Xenomorphs getting blown to bits with big scary guns wielded by a pissed off Sigourney Weaver! This game barely has any of that. Instead, it has a stick figure armed with a cattle prod wandering aimlessly on a map fighting mostly face huggers...and if you're lucky, a few Xenomorphes (if you can find them)!

Day 19 – A Game Series I Love So Much That's Went Down Hill

Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy

It seems like ever since Final Fantasy X and Squaresoft's merge with Enix, the series has progressively gone down hill. FFX clearly shows the series starting to stray away from the common elements that made others in the series legendary within the genre (if not gaming all together). Besides all the awesome FF remakes Square Enix has released since its merger, the only new/original releases that I've found any good was Dissidia and Final Fantasy XII (which ironically, many fans tend to hate). I really hope SE gets its act together or I may seriously leave the series alone altogether!

Day 18 – A Game I Wish My Friends Liked But Don't

Pokemon SoulSilver

Pokemon SoulSilver

Well actually, the pokemon series in general. I chose SoulSilver just because its the best I've played so far in the series and I haven't got a chance to start on Black yet. No one in any of my close circles plays pokemon anymore :( . So I usually have to battle or trade with strangers. Oh well, at least the single player game is still fun to play!
