Rather minor news, but a positive nonetheless. An extra button is always a good thing.

Favourable reactions to their press conference, he says. As though the incredibly unfavourable reactions to the X1 had nothing to do with it. At this stage, all Sony have to do is work on the PS4's marketing strategy, stay out of Microsoft's way, and enjoy watching the ensuing train wreck.

Not to nitpick, but I think you said 'below' when you should have said 'above' in the last sentence. $499 is not below $399 last I checked.

On topic, though: this is quickly getting ridiculous. Every time anyone from Microsoft opens their mouth, I am more and more convinced that my decision to abandon them in favour of Sony and the PS4 is the right call. I have never seen such ridiculous features touted with such blind corporate idiocy before in my life. Who does MS think they are fooling here? Not anyone with half a brain, I tell you that much.

@Top_Bloke So you like playing Russian Roulette with your games, like being told when and how to use the device you paid for, and like supporting companies that do this?

Fair enough. The sane part of the planet will be much happier with the PS4, though.

@Verenti I remember there being a lot more from Sony. And I remember them being a lot more serious. I'm not saying that Xbox Live was perfect, far from it, but out of the two it was the better, and more secure service. In my experience, at least.

Doesn't bother me. As much as everyone decries the Xbox Gold, I can remember exactly one incident involving them getting hacked. PSN, not so much. As well as the numerous times that PSN went down for no real reason. You got what you paid for, and got what you didn't pay for, with the online subscriptions last gen. If this means we get a more reliable service, I'm all for it.

Sony: "Been fun playing with you, Microsoft, but ah... we win!"

That settles it for me. PS4 on launch day, Xbox One... 2016. Maybe. PS has better features, and is getting all of the games I am interested in.

Well, this is unfortunate, but I can't say I'm surprised. It's been so long between machines that the One and the 360 must be two totally different beasts. Oh well, I wasn't planning on trading the 360 in anyway, so now I have an extra reason to hang onto it.

@jpeezy77 @hateyourface @RedLegZeff @Draconarius @hystavito The flipside is that there is a lot less opportunity to "try before you buy" with gaming. I don't see anywhere near as many demos as I used to. Meanwhile, you get to test drive a car, you can flip through the first chapter of a book, and you get to see a movie in cinemas or rent it before you buy your own copy. If developers offered more demo versions, or offered brief renting opportunities, a lot of people probably wouldn't mind their anti-resale crusade as much. They still wouldn't like it, but it would be closer to tolerable.

@RedLegZeff @hystavito I would understand, if they hadn't already been compensated for the copy in question when the first guy bought it. If they want the second guy to buy a new copy as well, they should make the game good enough that the first guy wants to hang to it and tells the second guy to buy his own copy because the game is simply that awesome. Sadly, everyone in the gaming industry seems too lazy to consider this option and just want the easy way out.
