I used to have an xbox and now play PS3. Every game that I look under "forum" and post stuff... the same Xbox 360 forum has more posts/pages.... Got to give you guys props for crushing it.

Then it'd be a PC with less functionality. There's no point in anyone trying to market that.

It's funtionality seems pretty good; Blu Ray, photo sharing, web browser, plays media files and games. It seems pretty user friendly. I just thought that people might be more willing to, "upgrade" their console... rather then shell out top dollar for a new one. We've seen Sony and Microsoft release consoles with more memory or the system becomes more compact.

It would be confusing as hell though for mainstream America to understand that certain upgrades do this/that.

Do you think consoles will ever become upgradeable like PC's?....new graphics cards, memory, etc. I know they have digital updates and in some cases you can expand memory.

I'm looking at new computers/laptops and I noticed that i7 core might be 1.7GHz and an i5 core will be 2.3GHz. Why is the i7 core lower? I'm guessing it can vamp up more power when needed?

For general use it (the first one) could last 4-5 years. For gaming it will never be optimal although it should play the games you mentioned at low-medium settings (keep in mind that screen resolution is 1920x1080).

The second will perfrom better in games however it is heavier, has less CPU power, has worse battery life, and is openbox.

If the screen resolution is less than 1920x1080 be it a different laptop (configured the same) or lowering the resolution will the game play "smoother?"

I am a console gamer and I think it hard sometimes for PC gamers because the industry is changing so fast on you... yes, you get the best of the best option when it comes to games/mods/updates. But, a console can be 4 to 6 years old and they are still churning out games with better graphics/gameplay then on release date with the same equipment. There is no regulation on PC... graphic card "X" will be used this month and come September it's already a thing of the past.

I can appreciate developers allowing some games to appeal to the masses on a graphics basis (i.e. Torchlight), but sometimes it's like you're S.O.L. when it comes to new games.

A major reason the PC gaming industry has taken such a hit over the years is because it's confusing as hell to "joe average" on what equipment to get and if it will be out of date in a year.

My laptop is 5 to 6 years old (SONY Vaio) and it's time to get a new one. I play most of my games on console and need a little direction as to what type of laptop I actually need for the next 3-4 years.

My budget is around $1000.

I'm looking to play only a few games a year on PC... Diablo 3, Amnesia, maybe a MMORPG, etc. Nothing too terribly straining. I'd like to throw in a Witcher 2 but, I know that might be too much for the PC to handle.

I'm past college and all I really do on the laptop is surf the web and stream a few t.v. shows... no movie watching, programming, etc.

So, what do I really need to play some of these games for the next few years. I am not looking for max settings, but would like to play without much lag.

I can do the research for what laptop has what.... I'm just not sure on GPU/CPU/RAM, etc.
