@jvconroy: I appreciate your inclusion of actual rationale in a decidedly measured opinion. I mostly agree - I was left with a very 'meh' impression, though I would say that they more than 'sort of' paid tribute to the original.
Absurd overly-negative reaction. Enough nods to the original (lyrics, bridge, various riffs, general structure) that I would say It's less of a new song and more of a cover injected with numerous contemporary motifs. Whether you like that or not it's hardly unexpected for a high-profile remake of a movie whose main theme was "fun." So asinine to be offended by this in any way.
I guess it's his job to make the Rift's vie for an edge seem like goodwill towards man, but if you read the piece about Newell's statement Valve is also giving money to devs for VR work, just with much fewer strings attached.
