Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read...

8800GTX > (x2) 8800GTS in SLI

If this is true... what is the point? I'm trying to decide between 1-8800GTX or 2-8800GTS's (640mb) in SLI.

Sentinel672002

SLI isn't a gimmick. It simply is what it is. Two cards in tandem, each dedicated to roughly half the work of a single card. How big is your monitor and at what resolution do you usually game? With a normal sized monitor, like 19" to 22", the GTX is more than you'd need for gaming right now. I say more is better, so get one of those. The only way I'd consider building an 8800GTS SLI rig, is if the price of a GTS card was closer to $200 a piece. Then two of them might be more bang for the buck than the single GTX...although you'd still have to allow for the added heat, power consumption and interior case space used for the SLI configuration...

Cool.. thanks for the input. I'm leaning towards going with a single 8800GTX. I'm leaving this option open, but would it be stupid to even consider SLIing 2 8800GTX's to game on a 22" widescreen LCD @ 1680x1050? If/when there's a price drop on the GTX (be it a year or so from now), would 2 of these cards even fit in an Antec Nine Hundred?

BTW, nice rig! The pc I'm building should be VERY similar to yours.

I realize that the DX10 capabilities are crap, but will this be a good DX9 card for a WinXP PC?

Crysis was the deciding factor for me to pull the trigger and build a gaming rig this year and if all goes well, my rig should be ready to go by the time or soon after Crysis is released. I've already bought Bioshock and, along with Crysis, I've reserved WiC, ET:QW, and Hellgate. I'm also looking forward to picking up Assassin's Creed (just not sure if I'd rather get it on the 360).

Is this really a great time to be a PC gamer or are the lineups always this great? At this time last year, what games were you looking forward to on PC?

For this budget family PC I'm building, I figured a good way to cut costs would be to buy a case w/ an included PSU. Are there any good ones out there? I've read that most PSU's that are included are crap.

This is what I had in mind (I can get a pretty decent deal on it at Bestbuy):

I've been asked to completely replace OR upgrade the family PC. ATM it's used for basic school apps, but my bro-in-law has expressed interest in trying out some MMORPG's (maybe WoW or GW) as well games like SIMS and such.

Can something like this be upgraded? It's a PC handed down to me from my old job.

Dell Optiplex GX270 workstation

P4 3.0Ghz

1GB RAM

Intel 82865G graphics controller

If I replace it completely, I'm thinking a firm $600 budget for the can alone while re-using stuff like the kb/m, speakers, and monitor.

Monitor = Dell 1702FP 17" LCD

My bad... It's been a long day. I admit that I overreacted, but even you have to agree that there is a bunch of sarcastic comments made on these boards.

Anyway... I think I'm gonna pick up the GC version tonight. So far the Wii has been pretty muchdubbed "family multi-player only console"...

wow umm... you would buy the same game b/c you cant play it in a certain room  how come you cant move it into your room, or another TV?grafkhun

Wow umm... why don't you try READING? Then maybe you'll SEE that I haven't bought the game yet. I rented the Wii Version.

And I have 2 kids that enjoy playing the Wii as much as I do. I'm not gonnahog up the Wii just so I can play some single player game by myself. Get real!

ya the graphics are the same so get the gamecube version if you cant use the motion controls in your room

Gally66

There would be WAR if I brought the Wii into the room... haha! My kids would skin me alive! Unfortunately, that's not an option. Plus, I risk smacking my wife in the face while she's asleep.
