I have to admit I was cringing when they went into music, facebook and films. They had a long list of services Microsoft basically paid to bring to Xbox Live. The amount of buying going on brings my thoughts to the early days of Xbox, would this console have ever actually survived if Microsoft didn't buy their way to success?

Consoles these days are diversifying too much, they are spreading their efforts into a multi-purpose entertainment device; which is shifting focus away from gaming and onto general audiences. I'm sure that is very good for Xbox as a platform; but it just demonstrates the increasing trend of focusing on more casual audiences.

Motion sensor X annoyed me, everyone is jumping on this freaking motion sensing bandwagon.

I also chuckled at the known to be cross platform 360 "exclusives" like Alan Wake, seems Microsoft goes by the idea of "console" exclusives.

Best post I have read in this thread. Completely sums up my feelings about most of it. All the added functionality might be good for J6P, but I am not J6P, and neither are any of you.

prepare for a steady stream of wiiesc casual games to start coming for the 360PS360_Gamer
This is what I expect, to be honest. MS is running a business, and yes this has the potential to make the Wii look pathetic, at a very comparable price point... so I expect them to go full bore on that front to generate revenue. I don't see the next Gears game involving you standing there in front of a camera pretending to run and shoot bad guys. Even if it was, paaaaass. The potential for the Natal thing is pretty interesting, but it remains to be seen whether or not its just another gimmick, which could easily be the case. As ever I will reserve judgment until more is known. What this translates to, to me, is that the 360 could have a seriously strong couple of years ahead of them competing on the Wii front, but it looks less and less concerned with the Sony front, ie putting out "hardcore" exclusive games. Sony is going to lose this console war in sales, that is a foregone conclusion... but if they keep putting out games like they have been for the past year, I will be playing more and more PS3 and less of everything else. Not to detract from the hardcore games on offer, it just seems like the thrust of this conference was all about the motion camera and new XBL functionality. Stuff that just doesn't grab me by the nuts as a gamer. This is E3 man, it comes once a year and I hype myself up for it for months, so when the particular showings don't do much for me it feels like that much more of a letdown. I'll just take away Alan Wake and Splinter Cell from their conference and block out most of the rest and I'll be happy. I really do hope MS knocks the Wii right off the market with their motion-sensing tech, because Nintendo desperately needs a kick in the ass. They have become fat and lazy, gorging on their success and lashing out at their competition. I hope Reggie Fils-Aime gets caught in an underaged boy scandal, I am really sick of that dork. :P

The Left 4 Dead 2 thing is really bothering me right now. It better be free for people that own L4D (original) or very cheap. Hell, it should be free because the original was full price and had almost no content.Lethalhazard
Yeah my first thought was that they intentionally left half of L4D on the cutting-room floor so they could release the rest later. Kind of a shark move imo. L4D is probably the single-greatest zombie game and one of the best co-op shooters ever made... but my god does it lack in content. It makes tje original Motorstorm seem like a robust offering in it's respective genre. Anyway I wouldn't hold my breath for any kind of deal, they will charge $50 on PC and $60 on 360, same as ever. Honestly though the first L4D is still worth full price because of the quality of the game, but the lack of content has always seemed like a slap in the face. Maybe the second one will be longer and have more to offer.

As a mgs fan doesn't mgs rising seem like a Raiden spin off, hopefully theres a true mgs 5 because this one looks like it will be a devil may cry type action game.

other notes

Alan wake seemed kind of dissapointing to me, enough with halo, valve sold out with left 4 dead 2, the motion camera stuffwas tough to watch, forza 3 looked good, modern warfare 2 is as expected, rock band beattles took too long, splinter cell looks pretty good, the epic downloadable game looks like bionic commando has pottential.

overall nothing too big other than mgs rising (unless you cant get enough of halo)

C+

The Kojima counter is still going for Sony's conference tomorrow. There were rumors about a Raiden spinoff for a while now, and I don't think most people expected it to be exclusive. During the whole Facebook, Twitter, motion camera part I was thinking "casual... casual... casual... get on with it" and I was so shocked when I tabbed Gamespot open and saw people blowing their loads over it. I guess we only hate casuals and casual games on the Wii. Is gaming as I know it dying? By gaming as I know it, I mean sitting in a computer chair for 11 hour stretches repetively killing and looting, then getting up with a sweaty ass to have a smoke and a Coke. I would still rather play actual tennis than Wii tennis, but maybe that's just me.

[QUOTE="Episode_Eve"][QUOTE="carlisledavid79"]Very good show apart from a few bits that didnt impress. Alan Wake was a highlight for me.BioShockOwnz

Alan Wake by far the best game on show so far.

Agreed.

Alan Wake, Metal Gear Raiden, Crackdown 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, and Project Natal are all awesome.

I'm downplaying L4D 2, but we know it'll be crazy big, too.

Agreed, though I am not as sold on Project Natal in terms of gaming as some people seem to be. Alan Wake and SCC look totally awesome. AAA hype for me. And isn't it "Metal Gear Rising"? I know he has a Japanese accent but I could have sworn he said Rising.

Decent conference, all the big titles they showed: forza 3, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, L4D2 and the Halos(slight milkage there) looked great.

The HD video no waiting prospect is very nice but il be impressed when i see it up and running.

As for the natal while the tech is awesome, its really not my thing. I dont fancy sitting at home and talking to a virtual friend, nor do i want to paint a picture by waggling my hands about. Maybe something good will come out of it in the future.

Then MGS series to 360 dont really know what to think about this one just another loss for Sony.

Looking foward to seeing what Sony has in the bag for tommorow.

I have long since resigned myself that there will be few, if any, 3rd-party exclusives going forward this gen. I truly expected MGS4 to be the last exclusive MGS title, so I am not too shocked. Sony has obviously realized this too, so they have been focusing on the home front and strengthening their 1st party lineup, which has finally started paying dividends. What's great is that from reading all of these E3 threads over the past week, I read so many daydreams about how MS would announce new Rare games, a price cut, new megaton exclusives, MGS4+Oxide etc. and that is how they would "win" E3. MS did none of these things, yet people are acting like E3 is over. There was so much speculation about how 2009 would be a great year for 360, just wait until E3 when they announce all these games. Well E3 is over and 2009 is still looking pretty dismal to me, though 2010 looks really promising.

I'm going to say B+. At first I thought that Natal stuff was a bunch of nonsense but it looks like it might have some interesting concepts. That Lionhead presentation was amazing and creepy. Knowing Pete's reputation though I'd say lets wait and see before we get carried away with it!blue_hazy_basic
Exactly. He speaks in hyperbole. Every project he's ever worked on would completely revolutionize home entertainment. Fable was going to have real-time grass growing and blah blah. Fable II was going to re-revolutionize it. He speaks in hyperbole. He strikes me as the type of guy that says "This is the best sandwich I have ever had" every single day at work. :P Anyway if this is considered "owning" E3 then the standards have been set really, really low. FF13 going multiplat was way bigger than this, and even that was a multiplat announcement. I guess if a 360 is all I had I would be more excited.

I guess I am alone in being really underwhelmed by that. Splinter Cell: Conviction and Alan Wake look phenomenal. If I didn't have a 360 and a PC it would be enough to make me buy one or both. Crackdown 2 looks like a lot of fun, something I will surely play. L4D is awesome and more L4D is always welcome. The rest of the show was multiplats, even their big MGS announcement. It was so embarrassing watching those guys force all this enthusiasm into having Kojima onstage. "Yeaah!!! (claps louder)". I am glad that the next MGS will be on both platforms because all the people claiming Kojima is an overrated hack will eat their words. Then we have Facebook, Twitter, more VOD services, and this Natal, which I really don't understand the hype for. The technology in itself is impressive, but what was shown there didn't get me juiced up like the Alan Wake footage. It was a huge letdown, really. I will reserve judgment until I see how it actually translates to real games. What was shown there looked scripted, and you will have to consider other factors like, will someone sitting on the couch getting up to take a pee totally ruin your whole game? Based on how they were using it, it just looks like a more accurate Wiimote, and the whole Wii concept of getting off my ass and pretending to play tennis is precisely the reason the Wii is the only console I don't own. Good conference I guess, but no megaton new games, it seems like they are just focusing on making the XBL infrastructure more like a PCs. Sony is tomorrow, they had better pull out the stops a little more than MS. It seems like the MS employees on stage were by far the most excited about all of these revolutions.

[QUOTE="Episode_Eve"]He isn't responding to her...It looks scripted.BioShockOwnz

Nope. It's being shown to the press. 100% real.

/facepalm How many times has CG "in-game" footage been shown to the press. Are you kidding, I really can't tell if you are being serious or not.
