How many games do you own?

Well since we've hit the midpoint of this console generation, and I need this info for a project, I want to ask you GS users...

how many physical copies of games do you own in total?

Awesome New Union

Alright, I'm planning on creating a new union that will be awesome

Basically I'm thinking of creating the union to be a community where programmers, designers and pretty much anyone can come together tocreate and design things, to learn how to do stuff, meet new people, find people to play games with, and stuff like that.

So if I want this to be as awesome as it could be, I need some more people to be in the union and I need the word about this union to get out.

Oh yeah, that and a name, so if anyone has any ideas please put them in the comment list.

Wow...Gamespot nostalgia...

So while I was scrolling down my profile today I stumbled upon one union and the only union that I'm still in...

...NeoOmni

oh how that brings back memories, it was 3 years ago that I started that union in the hopes of it becoming a dev and design studio with a fully functioning game and having it rise to the ranks of one of the well known and respected unions of GS. Well that never happened.

Now I look back on those 4 years to when I was 14 and just beginning C++ and how I attempted lead fellow GS members, many who were my age or older, towards greatness...well I still am no where closer to programming games at the age of 18, but the dream still hasn't subsided and I don't think that I'll be able to get another chance at attempted what I tried. NeoOmni is dead and there is no way of bringing it back.

Personally I would like to thank all those members who stuck through to the end and put up with me, especially mav_destroyer who tried her best to keep the union alive when I left GS and who had to put up with me more than anyone else.

The funny thing is that no matter how much I try I cannot detach myself and remove myself as a member from it, even though I hit remove, it won't remove me. So there it stands on my profile like a scar from the past.

Sigh...

Hmm...I have graduation money...what to do with it...

Alright so after a bit of a hiatus and a graduation party I come back here with $3800 and a wish...oh and I have $1200 more thanks to stocks I bought years ago...What to do with this money...

I was planning on building a beastly desktop to play PC games on (I'm a PC gamer at heart, it was my first console), but I need advice and help on what I should get for that and the max I feel spending is $1000 to $1200.

and I'm conflicted about buying a new 40in. HD TV for $250 because you see, I've been playing games on a 27in. SD TV.

oh and whatever's left is going to be invested.

So GS members, any help?

The best E3 blog ever

*Insert E3 analysis and blog here*

P.S. Aperture Science would like to apologize if this blog post disheartened you in any way. What were you expecting a blog about E3? If you wanted that then go read one of the kajillion other ones that are out there. We're here trying to work on the PS3 version of Portal 2 that Gabe had to go announcewithout informing us.Oh here I am going off topic again...where was I? Oh yes a blog about E3. So if you want a very detailed review of E3, then there isn't one here and if this angers you in any way then you I suggest that go and eat some cake. Trust me, there is some down the hall and to the left and it will help your MANY problems. You monster.

P.S.S. Aperture Science would like to mention that the 3DS looks to be one of the best things on the planet of the earth (but obviously not as good as Aperture Science) and that you all should get one when it comes out and if you do not want to then you should go and die in the flat 2D fires that inhabit your dull and not 3D world.

P.S.S.S. Aperture Science would also like to talk about all the other games that were at E3, but that would transform this blog into a blog analyzing E3 and we cannot let that happen because we've already apologized in the P.S. about this not being a blog about E3 and if we went back on our apology then we'd be lying and we here at Aperture Science do not lie. ever.

Lost Planet 2

I need more friends to play it with em though (and by more I mean > 0)

Holy mother of wow!

Marvel vs Capcom 3?! Best game rumor ever!!!

Why am I believing it because the guy with this rumor also correctly rumored the SSF4 new characters...

Oh yeah, in other news...stuff happened and life went on

Marvel vs Capcom 3!

Wow...

God of War 3 is simply the best game I have ever played.

My feelings about the story of the game and the characters did a complete 180 by the end.

The story is amazing and well done...

I love this game...

Info about the PS3 Y2K and how to fix it

Now as many of you know, the PS3 has been hit with Y2K

This is because the hardware (the RTC chip, aka the internal clock) is telling the OS that it's February 29th, however the OS is saying that it's March 1st because of this there is a conflict between the two and being programmed correctly, the OS reverts back to a basic date in order to not crash, in this case 12/31/1999 or 1/1/2000.

Due to this old date, when the PS3 checks anything involving trophies or the PSN, it is unable to work, this is because the System date is before the date to be used (for example if the trophies can't be used until 2009, they won't work because the system thinks it's 1999). This too is wrong for the OS so it just sends back an error. That is the reason why you can't play trophy based games or downloaded games/DLC online OR offline.

For the trophies, trophies will be deleted because the system says that the trophies aren't activated yet, so it thinks it's helping you by deleting them because it sees it as unused data because according to the system there is 10 more years until this data is recognized. However if you have synched your trophies, then they are safe because they are stored on a server. Any trophies that you didn't synch may be gone forever and may have to be reachieved.

As for the data corruption. The same effect still takes place. The date on the system is before the date for the data, so when the PS3 boots the data it finds that it's unable to be used so it either slaps the new date on it, or the data ends up being corrupted because of the change in dates.

From what I can see, this should be fixed when it hits midnight GMT, in which case the internal clock will tell the OS that it is March 1st, at which point the OS will agree and the date will be set to March 1st. With this, hopefully data will be fixed as well.

A list of consoles affect or unaffected by model:

CECHA0x - affected
CECHC0x - affected
CECHE0x - affected
CECHG0x - affected
CECHG0x - affected
CECHH0x - affected
CECHK0x - affected
CECHK0x - affected
CECHL0x - not affected
CECHL0x - not affected
CECHP0x - not affected

Also not all the "phat" PS3's are like this, mine is one of the newer 80GB (Motorstorm bundle) and mine is fine, but I have heard that the Motorstorm bundles are Y2K'd and some slims are.

Basically, keep it off until tomorrow, unless your willing to risk and see if it works. Any questions feel free to ask. Also stop yelling at Sony, they simply can't program a fix in 24 hours, so they see it as they'll let this bug fix itself while they work on a patch for it and the only possible one would be to have the OS expect a leap year every two years. However you can fix it by opening it up and taking out the RTC chip, but that probably won't end well...

In the meantime here are some pics to make you feel better:
