We Want Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

It's about time Tony Hawk made a comeback. The once best selling skateboarding franchise has become a symbol of failure in the gaming industry. It would be a shame to have the series end on a such a low note. Neversoft needs to remind us why we love the Tony Hawk franchise. It's time to bring back Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

We all know Tony Hawk's Ride & Shred were failures, but why were they failures? First thing I'd point to is the motion controlled skateboard that was required to play these games. It's clear Tony Hawk wanted to capitalize on the motion control fad that was going around. The problem was the games didn't successfully track the players movement which made the concept more of a gimmick than anything else. I personally have no interest in riding a skateboard which is why I like the arcade ****Tony Hawk games always had. For your comeback you must get rid of the skateboard control.

Tony Hawk's comeback has to be named Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Why? because most fans agree that the best Tony Hawk games were from the Pro Skater series. They also sold the most units and were more focused on skateboarding. By the time Tony Hawk went Underground the series focused more on story, and adding elements to the gameplay such walking and driving. The name Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 would be perfect. It could be marketed as the true sequel to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 which is arguably the best game in the series.

You don't want to make a comeback that sucks. You want to remind the gamers how good Tony Hawk games used to be. Don't go overboard trying to add new features. Just give us the Tony Hawk experience we deserve. You could test the water by releasing an HD version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4. I bet if it were under $15 it would do quite well. I personally could use a new Tony Hawk experience. It was a game people enjoyed watching me play as I attempted to score million point combos. Please come back Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. We miss you.

Microsoft E3 2011: Kinect Blah Blah Blah

Starting the show with Modern Warfare 3 shows you've got nothing new to say to the hardcore gamers Xbox. Every gamer knows a new Call of Duty is coming this fall. I bet most fans could have guessed it was Modern Warfare 3. The gameplay itself got off to a boring start. The dude on the stage looked bored playing as swam underwater.

Tomb Raider looked cool. I instantly thought of Uncharted when the trailer started, but after I saw her pull that stick out of her side I saw this game was serious. Nathan Drake is one of those guys who plays with fire and never manages to get a scratch on his face. Seeing Lara Croft get beat up as she made her way out that cave was cool. Add Tomb Raider to my list of games on my radar.

I'm skeptical about the Kinect support in Mass Effect 3. Sure it sounds cool to be able speak your dialogue choices to the game, but how does it sound to the person in the other room? "You're the Krogan's last hope." My family is going to think I'm crazy. Did Ubisoft show actual gameplay to the new Ghost Recon? All I saw was a trailer and a guy customizing his gun with his voice via Kinect. Only reason why I ask is cause I'm not sure if the game was a first or third person shooter.

Kinect blah blah blah. I thought Kinect was about using your body to make things happen. I guess it's more about using your voice to navigate menus. I think I'll save my $150 and just use my controller thank you very much. The purpose of Kinect's technology seems to be to make the gamer lazier. That Ryse game presented by Crytek seemed... Interesting. I don't know how exciting it's going to be punching and kicking the air. I'll wait for the reviews for that one.

Phil Spencer called Gears of War 3 the biggest exclusive of the year. That's scary since we've known about the game for years. As a matter of fact the game should've been released by now if it kept it's original release date. I'm not mad that Gears of War 3 is the big cheese for Xbox this year, but I want to see an exclusive I wasn't expecting. There's still another 45 minutes left of the show. Surprise me Xbox.

I got nostalgic when they presented Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. It made me think of how far the series has come since 2001. It feels like yesterday when my friends and I spent months playing the first Halo. Those were the days.

I'm not sure about Star Wars Kinect. I want to see something innovative with the technology. All I see is the player swinging the light saber and moving things. Do that in one game you've done it in all.

I see why Xbox was so quiet on the days leading up to E3. Microsoft had nothing to say. They're still hung up on Kinect which has yet to do anything for the hardcore gamers. This technology needs more time behind it. Maybe next year we'll finally see that hardcore game on Kinect.

How come Major Nelson never hits the stage at E3? When I see his tweets I instantly think Xbox. I've seen him speak at a Tweet Upl, and he does a good job at keeping peoples attention. I don't get it. Sure he's on Twitter with the updates during the show, but Major Nelson not hitting the stage is like Kevin Butler not appearing at Sony's show.

Overall I give the show a thumbs down. Xbox 360 isn't doing anything for the hardcore gamers besides Gears of Wars 3. Kinect wasn't cool 2 years ago, and it's not cool now. The Halo 4 trailer at the end was not a surprise neither was finding out it's going to be a trilogy. Next year Xbox focus on the hardcore gamers please. You'll be doing everyone a favor.

E3 Unboxed

Nintendo is expected to walk away with the best show at E3. I'm not so sure about that.Project Cafe has been making headlines ever since it was announced as the codename for Nintendo's next console. Stories ranging from Project Cafe supporting HD graphics to the controller being a portable console sound cool, but what about the videogames? I've heard speculation about two titles that might end up on Project Cafe. Super Mario Galaxy 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. If Zelda shows up as a launch title on the Project Cafe then Nintendo is off to a bad start.

Please don't name Project Cafe "Wii 2" Nintendo. I hardly play my Wii at all. I usually binge on it whenever a game I'm interested in is released. The last time I binged I was playing Donkey Kong Country Returns. That was last November. Ever since then my Wii's been collecting dust. I don't want to be reminded of how much I didn't play the Wii whenever I think about Project Cafe.

I hope Nintendo doesn't completely abandon the Wii at E3. I hope they give Link his first real Wii adventure by announcing a 2011 release date for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. As far as Super Mario Galaxy 3 goes that would be an awesome launch title for Project Cafe. Mario continuing his space adventure on a new console? Sign me up.

I still think Sony and Microsoft have a bunch of tricks up their sleeve. They've been quiet about what they have in store for E3. I expect to hear updates about Gears of War and Uncharted 3, but I'm interested to see what they are going to do with their motion peripherals. Maybe they're both ready to present original IP's for the Move and Kinect. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony or Microsoft presented a new console. Let The Show Begin.

Errol's E3 Predictions

E3. The time when the videogame industry announces it's plans for the future. The place where gaming journalists who are too arrogant to make friends come together to say "F you" to the people who couldn't make it. I live for this. The Big 3 always dictate how successful E3 is going to be. Based off the stuff that we already know this years E3 is lining up to be special.

Nintendo is expected to debut it's new console codenamed Project Cafe. More interesting than that is the controller for Project Cafe that is rumored to have some pretty cool features. I heard the controller will have a touchscreen, a camera, a retinal scanner, you name it the controller will have it. I can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store with Project Cafe.

I hope Nintendo acknowledges the missteps of the Nintendo 3DS. It's sales aren't meeting expectations, and it's being outsold by the Nintendo DS, I hope we get an in depth look of the upcoming Super Mario 3DS game that's expected to come this holiday season. I also hope we see more AAA games announced for the 3DS.

Kevin Butler should be around for Sony's presentation. He was a hit at last years show, and after the crazy month Sony's had I think they could use a laugh. I also expect Sony to acknowledge the inFamous Playstation Network hack.

I expect to see a release date and the name "Playstation" attached to the NGP at E3. I also hope there is some in depth looks at some of the upcoming titles for the NGP. Maybe we'll find out Uncharted and Killzone portable are launch titles.

Microsoft might have a few tricks up it's sleeve. They've been pretty quiet about what they have in store for E3. All I know is that their show will be broadcasting Live on Spike TV. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft introduced it's new console. Xbox 720 would steal the show away from Project Cafe. I expect to see a bunch of jokes about the Playstation Network as well.

It's about time Rockstar gave us a preview of Grand Theft Auto 5. Everybody knows it's in development. If we don't hear anything about it this year then what is taking so long Rockstar?

Is the Nintendo 3DS a Flop?

Would you be surprised if I told you the Nintendo DS outsold the Nintendo 3DS last month? It's true. The Nintendo DS sold 257,000 units while the Nintendo 3DS sold 194,000 units in the month of April 2011. I was surprised at first, but after some thought it wasn't that surprising.

Nintendo 3DS is Expensive

The Nintendo 3DS is too expensive. Especially when the price of the Nintendo Wii and DS have recently dropped. You could buy a Wii and two games for less than the price of a 3DS with one videogame. That's crazy. Lets not forget the PSP Go went for the same price and died in less than two years

It's Not Really Innovative

The Nintendo 3DS is not too different from the Nintendo DS. Everything from the name to it's design brings out images of the Nintendo DS. The only noticeable differences I see are the circle pad and the design of the stylus. Everything else is small adjustments. The power and volume buttons have moved as did the place for the stylus. The 3D graphics are innovative because they don't require glasses, but that's not enough to call the 3DS a new system. Sure it makes the graphics better, but I've yet to come across a game where the 3D graphics actually improved the gameplay.

Videogame Selection is Horrible

There aren't many games out there for the 3DS. To make matters worse the most notable upcoming games are 3D ports of console exclusives. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Edition come to mind as the most anticipated titles of the year for the 3DS. There is also a new Mario game in the works that's expected for the holiday season. Right now the only game I would recommend for the 3DS is Super Street Fighter 3D Edition. I've put well over 50 hours into that game, and I don't see myself slowing down.

It's too early to tell if the 3DS is a flop. It's only been available for 2 months. It's definitely off to a slow start. It has yet to sell one million units in the United States, and it's predecessor the Nintendo DS is selling more. This is supposed to be Nintendo's time to put a dent on the sales of the upcoming Sony NGP. Maybe sales will go up as more high profile games are released. In the mean time I'm going to save up for a Sony NGP.

#E3ForME

E3 is my destiny. I didn't know what a gaming convention was like until I went to the inaugural PAX East in 2010. It didn't take long for me to realize I was built for this. I have possible interviews both Jim Sterling & Hood News arranged for E3. I feel important.

Jim Sterling is the voice of the gamers. I don't even know where to start when I think of the success he's had as a gaming journalist. I describe him as a "Game Journalist 2.0." It's an honor and a pleasure to be given the opportunity to meet a legend in the gaming industry.

Hood News is the voice of the streets. They're the one's that caught the infamous tape of rapper Charles Hamilton getting punched by that girl. ****c. They report real issues that pertain to the lives of Black people in America. I saw a video where they filmed a person being arrested just to make sure the man wasn't being mistreated. It's an honor to be given the opportunity to be interviewed by the same people who have interviewed Kid Cudi.

I just have to make it to E3, How do I get a press pass into this event? Losers would make fun of the fact that I had I three day pass at PAX East. I like my 3 day pass. It showed I wasn't a conformist like the losers that were hating on me. If I have people in the gaming industry hating on me I must be doing something right. I deserve to go to E3. You will see me there. I just need to find the 3 day pass with my name on it... #E3ForME

The Return of SSX

I wasn't too excited when SSX: Deadly Descent was announced at last years abysmal Videogame Awards. The brief trailer suggested that the game was going to be focused on racing downhill.

"Racing is more important that the tricks"

is what I thought when I saw the title "Deadly Descent". There was a silver lining in the trailer. No gameplay footage was used. This gave journalists the freedom to make their own conclusion about what they saw. I think EA Sports wasn't sure what they wanted the next generation SSX to be so they presented what they had.

Good News. Ubertricks are back.

Earlier this week, EA Sports announced they had dropped the "Deadly Descents" subtitle from the title. They also came with information about what to expect from the new SSX. There will be 3 different events, Racing Descents, Tricks Descents, & the new Deadly Descents. They also said they want to keep the games over the top nature in all three modes. I hope that means the game would is more like SSX: Tricky than SSX 3.

SSX Tricky > SSX 3

SSX: Tricky is arguably the best game in the series. The replay value of that game is enormous. My friends and I spent hours in trying to beat our high scores. I believe my highest score was in the millions, but it's been years since I played SSX: Tricky. SSX 3 was fun. The whole "one mountain" concept was cool, but I put way more hours into SSX Tricky. If the new SSX can top SSX: Tricky then we're in for a great game. Welcome back SSX. It's been a while. I look forward to hearing about your release date.

RIP Motorstorm Apocalypse

Motorstorm Apocalypse can't get a break. The game was scheduled to be released a week after a 9.0 Earthquake struck Japan, and was delayed around the world as a result. The delays began in Japan and trickled to Europe which also scheduled Motorstorm Apocalypse to be released a week after the Earthquake in Japan. The delay in Europe was understandable. I figured the release date of April 12th in North America would be solid since it would be a month since the disaster. I was wrong. Days after delaying the game in Europe Sony announced they were delaying the release of Motorstorm Apocalypse in North America. I knew the game was doomed after that.

It was only a matter of time before another natural disaster would strike somewhere in the world. Unfortunately that natural disaster struck Japan again. A 7.4 Earthquake has struck the island today in an apparent aftershock from the 9.0 earthquake last month. Tsunamis are now expected to strike the island. My thoughts and prayers go out to Japan. Today's Earthquake isn't helping the release of Motorstorm Apocalypse.

If you have a copy of Motorstorm: Apocalypse I strongly suggest you don't open it. It's only a matter of time before the game gets canceled, and the copies that are available become collectors items. This could be worth than Dragonball GT: Final Bout if you play your cards right. I know there was a round of copies that were available in Australia, and there are review copies floating around. Good luck finding a copy. You heard it first.

Dance Games Aren't What They Used to Be

Whatever happened to the good old days when dance games weren't so physical? I might get laughed at if I showed up with a Playstation control to play Dance Dance Revolution. Dance Central is the next generation of the dance genre which is bittersweet. On one hand it's great to see the genre evolve into something that actually teaches people how to dance. On the other it's sad to see the controller become obsolete.

Bust A Groove is my all time favorite Dance Series. It was the total package on the Sony Playstation. It might not have taught you how to dance, but it taught you something about rhythm. The game required you to perform dance moves based on the rhythm of the song. You would have three beats to press the directions on the screen, and on the fourth beat you would press the button it asked you to press. It was fun to watch two characters busting moves in a dance off. The gameplay wasn't the only place where Bust a Groove shined. The Soundtrack is also top notch.

Remember when Dance games had original songs? What happened to that? I'm guessing dance games got bigger budgets which allow for licensed songs to be used. I'll never forget the first time I played Dance Dance Revolution. It was the 3rd mix, and the first song I played was "Butterfly" by Smile d.k. The song was so different from any other song I've ever heard that all I could was laugh as I played along. By the time it ended I was nodding my head and feeling the song. Memories.

I discovered hundreds of good songs I would have never heard thanks to Dance Dance Revolution. To this day I still listen to songs like Dynamite Rave, B4U, and Shooting Star. That was the closest thing to techno and trance I had when I was a preteen. Today mainstream artists like Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, and Armin Van Buuren dominate Dance Dance Revolutions soundtracks. I'm not saying having mainstream songs is a bad thing. It just makes the Dance series feel more like an interactive music video than a videogame.

Games like Dance Central and Just Dance show that future dance games want you to actually dance. It's cool that videogames want to promote physical health, but it sucks at the same time. When I bought Dance Dance Revolution I had no idea the Dance Pad existed. I found out when I went it showed up a local arcade months later. I didn't like it as much as just pressing buttons on my controller. I liked the ability to mindlessly press buttons while listening to awesome music. It looks like those days are over. Consider this my ode to the good old days. You will be missed.

Dragon Age II vs. The ****

The gays are mad at David Gaider. They want him fired for stereotyping homosexual characters in Dragon Age II. If you refuse to seduce a gay character you are given rivalry points towards your friendship with that character. Rivalry points suggest your relationship with a homosexual character will have tension because you won't act on the gay characters sexual desire.

It doesn't stop there. The gay characters apparently make passes at your character all the time. Even if you don't show any interest the gay character will flirt with you. This game is starting to sound like a porno. I might have to give it a try. Only thing I know about Dragon Age II is that it's made by the same studio that made Mass Effect.

Aren't we overreacting a bit? If you think David Gaider is ignorant about the gay life**** firing him isn't going to solve anything. He'll probably get hired by another studio, and put out a game where he doesn't include any gay characters. We'll be back to discussions about homosexuality being underrepresented in videogames. Someone needs to educate Daivd Gaider on the gay life****

I assume the main character in Dragon Age II is supposed to be a handsome guy. I'm thinking the gay characters hitting on him should be taken as a complement. Not every gay man wants to sleep with you, but if you're a gay man whose never been asked to sleep with a man you've just met, online or in person, you might be a virgin. Again I haven't played Dragon Age II. Maybe the gay characters are as over the top as the supporting cast of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Here's a link to the Petition Fire David Gaider
