MGS4 story > Gears Story

Gears Online > MGS4 online

Gears gameplay > MGS4 gameplay (MGS4 can be played as a shooter)

MGS4 character models > Gears Character models

Gears Textures > MGS4 textures.

MGS4 = Greatest Game this Gen

MGS4 = 2nd Greatest Game of All Time ( Behind Mgs3 of Course)

Eltroz

Then why on Gamerankings is Halo3,Gears1,Oblivion,Orange Box and so on ranked higher? Maybe one of the greatest games on this website but in the real world beyond this website it is not.

for its fanbase, MGS games are more for specific people...it isn't a casual game where everyone can pick up and enjoy it.

whys that?

westernizing Even Kojima once said MGS4 wasn't the game he had in mind. MGS4 is the best game this gen but at times it didn't feel like a MGS game at all.

how was it westernized? lol

The new view point, swapped the X and O buttons, less codec conversations and easter eggs, and much more.

You do know that view point came from Resident Evil 4, right? a Japanese game. which inspired gears of war, and many of todays 3rd person shooters. i agree with the X buttons.

honestly, MGS 4 is the only game I have truly enjoyed this gen. I felt like I was playing a next gen game.

its graphics, presentation and gameplay was solid. the gameplay was solid, especially when compared to previous MGS games.

in terms of gameplay, you can do lots of things, you can different styles of play, unlike your typical FPS, e.g. CoD 4, Halo, Resistance, etc where you just run and gun, nothing else.

games like Gears and Uncharted at least tried to spice it up.

thats great and all, i respect that...but IMO, when you watch MGS4 and see snake fight and act, it looks awesome and intense...do it in gameplay, it just doesn't fit. His suppose to be a badarse and look good doing actions. He slits peoples throat with his left hand for god sake, hell when he jokes someone on the ground looks awefull... the Attention isn't there from the devs. I know there is a lot of variety in gameplay, but doing them isn't fun. They removed the neck breaker, and could of added more CQC moves.

its still great, but compared to other titles it feels dated.

This is coming from a die hard MGS fan..

I look at MGS4 and i see a quality title, but thats only when looking at graphics, presentation, characters, story. But when it comes down to gameplay, its pretty average and doesn't give of that same feeling, which IT SHOULD, because its all about gameplay.

In the story, cutscenes...you see quality animations, movie like action and immersive depth. once it hits gameplay, it feels like a game...unrealistic with dated animations, a worthless cover system, not enough moves, etc.(tho the new gun play perspective is much better.

Gameplay worked for PS2 titles, like MGS2 and 3, but for a current gen title, with much improved tools, the gameplay should advance just as much as presentation.

Unfortunetly, we all know MGS is all about its story and thats how the developers think, hell, Hideo Kojima wanted to be a director growing up, but landed in the Video game business, so we know why its games are the way they are. (length story, doesn't bother me, love it, BTW)

but its obvious, gameplay is more of a secondary thing with them.

I look at games like Splinter cell or Uncharted, hell gears...and dead space...and playin them feels good, the reactions, movement is solid and up with the times, they feel more like movies, when playing. MGS4 doesn't do this. It's a shame because it has advanced so much in other areas.

I sometimes think to my self, imagine MGS4 with gameplay like gears, uncharted or splinter cell...but of course modified in its own ways. I don't mean exactly, but animation-wise.

I was playing MGS4 the other day, and when in heated battle, its SLOW, in reality, you would be faster, dive to cover, move quick...but do that in MGS4, you have to click a button to attach to a wall, and then move dead slow to move to the edge, then enters a slow animation to have snake look around the corner to shoot. gsus.

Yes i'm ranting on alittle too much, but i'm passionate about MGS, and i think it could be much better. expecially with all the competition out there making much improvements to gameplay.

Thoughts?

Aren't they rich?

Edit: I see a 360 next to the tv.

mbrockway

yeah they would want to play rival games

Or maybe they are real gamers that develop on many different platforms and aren't biased fanboys?

yeh, calm down...many of them have both consoles, just because they make a game for a cetain console, doesn't mean they can't play games in general from other consoles. No big deal.
