you do know that Kinect uses the same tech used in the eyetoy, 3DVKevinButlerVP
the Kinect is a redesigned 3DV. The rights to the Zcam were sold to Microsoft and thats what became Kinect.

so was the Virtual Boy...

AntiType
The virtual boy was the predecessor to the 3DS....Nintendo simply learned from their mistakes and it happens to be while 3d is re-emerging itself.

[QUOTE="110million"][QUOTE="FatedX360"][QUOTE="110million"] Which isn't terribly innovative really, its using the Playstation Eye in a different way, its interesting they were able to record joints and detect motion through that, this is new to Kinect, but without letting you sit down for ANY kind of game, this is a massive failure, playing racing and such standing up isn't cool. Also, I'm a college student, I barely have enough room in front of my TV at all, room for a whole new tech that requires you to stand a good distance from the camera is bleh.

Of course Kinect will have its flaws, the technology behind it is fairly new to consumers. Eventually things with similar tech will be more advanced than the kinect. Its certainly a new bandwagon to jump on for companies, Sony may join the jump and test its waters with its other products in the next decade.

Other companies can't jump on the Kinect bandwagon, that isn't a bandwagon, MS jumped on the motion bandwagon that nintendo started, they are combining Playstation Eye's basic concepts, with some Wii motion in there, plus a couple of their own twists, it isn't something innovative, its merely re-using some existing ideas, if this does take off in the future, you can't exactly say MS started some sort of revolution just because they used other people's technology.

I never said MS was the founding father of the tech. Its certainly been shown before, but the general public has never quite seen this tech yet nor have they been able to access them as consumers.

[QUOTE="Greyfeld"]I'll be honest, I think Kinect is going to fall on its face and is going to be a major hardware fail. However, I'll be the first to admit that the technology behind Kinect is something that i'd like to see expanded and extrapolated on for the future. For computers, for gaming, for electronics in general. It's going to be a slow process, full of trial and error, but the more widespread this tech becomes, the closer we come to true VR. Of course, I also believe that true VR is going to require brain censors and stuff like that, which frankly scares the crap out of me lol.

If VR comes anytime soon, i hope to god we don't have to have holes surgically put into out bodies for us to use the tech *cough*matrix*cough*

[QUOTE="Brownesque"]kinect will have no part in the future if they fail to develop games as deep as those from traditional mechanics.Brownesque

Maybe, maybe not but this isn't simply about gaming. Its about itech in general.

kinect has already established itself a technologically interesting piece.... But your own OP claims that traditional controllers are obsolete....so my question is, where is the software that demonstrates this fact? Nowhere. Nobody can even explain how Natal is supposed to replicate old mechanics, let alone exceed them, without being tedious and pointless...Natal's contribution to me seems obvious....alternative controls for alternative games. For godsake, the best MS can come up with is party gamez....

I never stated that controllers are obsolete. i said it most likely will be in the future, which i hope isnt anytime soon. I love using a physical controller as much as anyone else

So there's been alot of people saying Xbox will fail bc of Kinect. maybe. maybe not. but what if it becomes successful? i know a bunch of people are going to say..."No not a chance." Fact is....this IS the technology of the future. The way we advance in technology these days, it'll be sooner or later that millions of electronics will have similar more advanced tech. Touchscreens have been making waves this past decade and have u noticed how almost everything out there is "touch sensitive" now? Like it or not, controllers will be obsolete in the future, hopefully not anytime soon but they will be. Oh and guys...Kinect is not replacing the Xbox controller...Games that were designed for the controller just that...Games designed with kinect is just that. Don't expect to play CoD or Halo on Kinect, its common sense but then again System Wars intellect skips the common sense phase all together. Kinect probably won't be breaking any ground this year, but in the following years, expect the tech to go further than any of you thought, point of the thread is, Kinect is a small glimpse of the next decade in technology.

P.S. - THIS SIMPLY ISN'T ABOUT GAMING. Its technology in general.

[QUOTE="FatedX360"]

I just found it interesting, but still the Cell processor is superior than the 360's tri-core.

red12355

It depends on what you're doing with it. You can't just make a blanket statement.

Well, yes it does depend on whats being done with it. I know basic tech but not to the point to where I know what the processor is capable of in detail.
