@toophat2014: While it's true that sometimes AAA games actually look and perform better on consoles (I'm looking at you Arkham Knight) a lot of AAA games actually run better and have less problems. One only needs to look at Fallout 4. Because PC's are so much more powerful, if you possess a high end pc, you can just overpower un-optimized sections of a game.
For example, even in the ps4 version of fallout 4, you have unacceptable dips into the 20's during certain spots in the game. With the PC, you can either overpower these problem areas, or change the settings to adjust to the relative power of your PC's hardware. Also, patching can be done much quicker, since developers don't have to worry about the burdensome quality control of Sony and Microsoft.
In conclusion, some pc ports can be the superior version, even if their initially more buggy and un-optimized, because of the PC's power, and the PC's unobtrusive quality control on Steam.
After reading and listening about all of the technical problems prevalent on the consoles, and the underwhelming graphical fidelity of fallout 4, I wonder where all of the processing power of the consoles is being spent on. Compare this game to the Assassin's Creed Unity, which had it share of bugs and frame-rate stutter, but looked absolutely stunning and I wonder if Bethesda just sucks at optimization. Their games do rock though, so it is a forgivable transgression.
Kevin Van Ord leaving Gamespot has really hurt the qualities of the reviews lately. I never heard of this guy, and while his video review was decent, his written review, which Van Ord used to excel at, is just a boring recap of what he says in the video. Good reviewers expand upon the video and add additional detail and context to those who have the attention span to actually read something.
I really wish Peter Brown reviewed this game as him giving it a 9 would have much more credibility. This is because he gave poor scores to last year's batch of Assassin's Creed's games. I'm not convinced Alex Corriea has credibility as a reviewer as this is the first review I have read of her's. Man I miss Kevin Van Ord. Agree or disagree with him I never doubted his integrity as a reviewer. Alex hasn't earned that credibility yet and it was a mistake assigning her to review the game.
End of an era with Kojima leaving Konami. It's a shame that culture around Konami changed so much that it made his work environment untenable. People throw the word auteur around a lot but love him or hate him, all of his games had a very artistic and personal viewpoint. And while scores aren't a definitive decider of quality, I'll doubt we will ever see GameSpot hand out two consecutive perfect scores for a franchise. He will be missed.
Did anyone else notice the reduced crowd density? This game seems like a step back technically from Unity. While it still looks great it looks like they cut back on the scope of their ambition because "next gen" hardware was incapable of running it. What a shame. With direct X 10 now out modern graphics cards will be able to handle all of the draw calls that slowed down powerful cards for Unity. Oh well, like always, consoles are why we can't have nice things for the PC.
@carman151515: Agree, I will be super pissed if the next elder scrolls game has voice acting. I get that Bethsaida has to streamline things for the casuals but that is going to far.
