Rain, Rain, Please Come This Way

Its not even 11 o'clock yet and the mercury is already at97. Like most of the South, Memphis is in the middle of a bad heatwave. I read 12 people have died because of the heat, 7 of them right here in Memphis. One of those people was a tourist here for Death Day. The high for today is 104, which is better than yesterday's 106 and Tuesday's 107.

I got a job offer yesterday. Technically I am looking for job, but not actively searching. School started on Monday, so I am waiting for people to quit their summer jobs and forplaces tohave openings. I am still trying to decide whether or not to take it. Its at a gas station, well not really a gas station. Kroger has a "fuel station" near their store. Where as a gas station has an actual store you can go inside and buy things, the "fuel station" is a box about the size of a toll booth. But that's not my biggest problem. The fuel station is about 100-150 yards away from the store, and I'd be the only person there. So if something goes wrong I am on my own, pretty much. I'd also have to bike the 2.5 there and back(I don't have a license) and Iwould have to work until l1 PM occasionally. I think I am going to pass on it and look for something else.

More Basketball, Animated Star Wars, and Guide News

So my anger with the NBA has succede a little. Today actually was a good day for the Grizzlies. They filled one of two big job opening. They hired Marc Iavaroni to be the coach. This will be Iavaroni's first head coaching job, but he has alot of expeirence in the NBA as a player and a coach. He has been one of the most sought after coacing-canidates for the past couple of years. His press confrence this afternoon was pretty unique, well the way I viewed it was. I knew the press confrence was at 2 so I tuned into our local FOX affiliate to watch when they ran a ticker along the bottom of the screen saying the confrence was going to viewable on thier website. So I jumped all over that. The video quality was surprisingly very good. It did mess up in the middle but I only missed about 30 seconds. I still find it wierd at all the things viewable on the internet. A few years ago the only way you'd get coverage on something like this was either live coverage or the next day in the paper.

Another video on the internet that caught my eye was the trailer for  The Clone Wars. Its the new animated Star Wars series. I was really skeptical when I heard it was being done in CGI and not cell animation like the original Clone Wars micro-series, but after seeing this I am actually looking forward to hit. What really shocked me was that Lucasfilm was actually going to shop it to the major networks. If they wanted this series to succeed he would shop it to either Cartoon Network or to Sci-Fi Channel(as part of thier new animation block launching next motnh).

In guide news, I've almost have The Soup guide up-to-date. I did make a big mistake earlier though. While adding a few missing episodes to season four I added two that were already in the guide but under the wrong season, and I was fixing to move over to thier correct spot. I've submitted them for deletion and hopefully they'll be deleted soon.

The NBA is a Joke

I'm going to come off sounding like sour grapes, but the NBA is a joke. They have once again fixed the lottery. How in the world is it that the two worst teams in the league are picking 4th and 5th? Portland has two of the top rookies this year and they come out of nowhere to get the number 1 pick? And you give the number 3 pick to Atlanta. This is complete B.S. I know it seems dumb, to rant about something like this, but its true. People have long suspected that the NBA lottery is fixed and the past couple of years have proven it. Especialy 2003, Cleveland has the worst record and attendance and they just happen to land Ohio native and superstar in-waiting LeBron James? They are now one of the top teams in attendance and are playing in the Eastern Confrence title game. The same thing could have happened in Memphis( a place where David Stern says its important for the NBA to succeed.). But no. You have killed a franchise and in 2021 you will be annoucing that the Las Vegas Grizzlies have the #1 overall pick. Great job, David, great job.

Today Was My D-Day

So because of my family's busy schedule, we-and we being my dad, my sisters, my brother, and me- had forgotten to shop for Mother's Day. And as anybody who as ever shopped on the last minute for any holiday can tell you- its miserable. The store was absolutely packed. We literally had to fight through a crowd to get cards! We were able to get quite a few things off her list as well as some not on the list.  One gift I am going to regret getting her, but that's okay- its her day;).

In my long absence from blogging, I've managed to pick up another show guide, this time for a current airing show. The guide is for The Soup, E's talk/comedy/sketch show. I remember when I got the Pirate's guide I said that it was going to be a huge project. The Soup makes Pirates look like a dwarf. Every single episode from episode five onward is in the wrong season. Most the episodes don't have cast, or a description. One season is missing entirely. Luckily I've found a few reliable resources to help fix the guide up. And with this guide I've made my first major mistake as an editor. Today when I went to reject a sub, I accidentally hit approve. I felt like such an idiot. I had already written a detailed reason as to why I was rejecting, the whole nine yards. And then I press the approve button. I sure the user got the notification and was like "Huh?"

This is Getting Ridiculous

Almost nothing on this site is working. I've been trying for 2 days to read the news stories on the front page, some of them still don't work. 9 times out of 10 when I try to access a profile, show guide, forums(pretty much anything) I get a white screen telling me my browser made a bad request. What is it now? Not getting level updates and CP bugs are one thing, but when you can't even access the site, it whole new ballgame.

Once Again

Once again, TV.com is having problems. These seem to be from the new look given to the episode guides. Might I add I find this feature useless. But I just spent 10 minutes trying to get on the site. I kept getting "Internet Explorer can't display this page" and 404 Errors. I finally got on by clicking on a link from Wikipedia.

Scary Not from the Goverment And a HUGE blessing

**fingers crossed** Hopefull this will work!

So I have been trying to post a blog since last week, but due to numerous bugs I've been unable to. Like most people I've been barred from leaving comments on blogs-due to a bug- but I've tried leaving comments on almost everyone's blog, so I am reading them.

Today I got a scary letter from the Government. It said that I hadn't registered for the Selective Service yet and unless I did so ASAP I was facing jail time. This freaked me out. I always thought you registered after you graduated high school, but apparently your supposed to on your 18th birthday. So I quickly did that online. It was still scary.

Sunday, my family received a HUGE blessing. About two years ago my mom fell in the kitchen and hurt her back. This wouldn't be a big deal if she didn't already have Degenerative Disc Disease. After seeing our doctor he told her there was no way she would be able to work again and that she needed to file for Social security Disability.

Thus started a long, depressing journey. Anyone who knows anything about SSD knows it is unreasonably too hard a process. 98% of people who apply get turned down. After that you are allowed to get an attorney to help you, but there is still more than an 90% chance you'll be turned down. If you apply a third time you get to go before a judge and 98% of people win their case. But it is still a long process just to get to that third time.

So for two years we've been on this road and as you travel further and further down this road, the conditions get worse. 2006 was when things got really bad. Our car died, my dad ended up in the hospital, I almost had to have surgery on my back among other things. Things were looking really bleak. Finally, though my mom got her court day in November. After the hearing the judge wrote out his verdict and sealed it. The attorney said he was 99.9% they'd won. But we wouldn't know for 6 months!! So for three months we've been worrying and praying and hoping.

Then it seemed there was a light at the end of the tunnel. The last week of January, my mom got a letter saying she'd won her case, and would receive her back pay sometime in the next two months. We were excited. Our prayers had been answered. Then things got worse.

On Super Bowl night a pipe burst in our wall, then exactly one week later our drier died. In one week we'd spent over $500 on repairs. Once again there was a dark cloud hanging over our heads. There was no way we'd make it another month. So on Sunday my mom was surprised to find a letter from the Social Security Administration. Thankfully, it was the letter saying she'd receive her back pay either on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. We figured it'd be Tuesday(or today) because Monday was President's Day and the Government was closed, so to speak. She happened to call the bank a few minutes latter, so she could pay some bills, and miraculously the money had already been deposited!! It was just so amazing. It was like the weight of the ocean had been lifted of our family's shoulders. They say you know when the Lord has blessed you, and He definitely did.

I was Stuck In 2006

Well, I finally decided to make my first appearance of 2007. Sorry for the delay, but once I again an injury kept me from the computer. This time it came in the form of a 2 inch gash down the back of my hand. Right after the 1st my dogs decided, 'Hey nothing going on.. let's get into a fight!' So I go rushing into the back of the house and find these two 100 lbs beasts throwing themselves into each other. Teeth and claws, the whole shebang. So after I moved my sister out of the way , I attempted to wedge a stool between them. That's when one jumped up and tried to bite the other in the head and got my hand. I instinctively jerked it back and that caused the tooth the to travel down my hand. So now blood is everywhere, my sister is crying, my mom is yelling trying to get the dogs under control, and they're still fighting. I grab a rag and can immediately tell this is going to need stitches. Needless to say, I am now pissed. My hand is bleeding uncontrollably, and they are still go at it. I run back there and with the help of a chair I was able to separate them for the few seconds I needed to regain control. I kick in the direction of the Lab, intending to miss but to get her to back up, while at the same time taking down the mutt. The Lab backs up enough to shut the door and separate them for good.

Phew! That lead to a 6 hour night in the ER in which they did nothing but clean the wound and give me antibiotics. But my hand was really swollen(not to mention hurting) and this kept me from typing for a week or so.

Besides the reason above so far 2007, has been 'meh'. Its too early to tell how the year will turn out. Hopefully, alot better then 2006. 2007 did bring us the return of 24. As usual the first couple of episodes of 24 were kinda slow but they ended on a nice high tension moment. Last night's episode was great. I loved the ending with Jack and his brother(And hopefully the revelations of people who might be behind the plot or in the least helping with said plot will quell some of this talk about 24 being racist to Muslims).

But with the return of 24 comes the end of my watching Heroes live. I could've chose to watch either series on the web, but the tension of 24 probablly wouldn't be the same on the web. Oh, well, I am really getting into watching TV online! I now also watch DH and B&S online due to SciFi's absolute moronic decision to move BSG to Sunday nights.
